Thanks.

At 33, Theriot has not walked away from baseball. He still wants to play, but on his terms.
He is that rare player who is capable of continuing his career for several more years but ready to hang it up if he is not offered a job with significant playing time. He does not want to be anybody's backup and is ready to become a full-time dad, and maybe a player agent, if the right situation does not arise.
"I like to play. I'm a busybody," Theriot told The Chronicle in his first interview with a Bay Area reporter since the World Series. "I like to go out there and do it. I'm counterproductive when I'm just watching. I like to contribute in some way, shape or form other than in the clubhouse and feel needed on the field.
"I've had some stuff come up, no doubt. It's not really exactly what I'm looking for playing-time-wise. That's where we're at right now. We'll see what happens."

Under-appreciated. All he does is win championships and become a fan favorite.
No idea why he has to fight to make rosters.

He doesn't.
He doesn't want to go somewhere to sit on the bench.

He is a family man. He has made his money and now he had decided to return home and raise his 3 little girls in Baton Rouge.

Giants offered him 3M for 2013 to serve as a backup. As said previously, he wants to start, so he walked away.

If this is the end of the line for him, he ended his professional career the same way he ended his collegiate career with a championship.

Nothing has changed since the same thread came out last week.

I know he's made more money then I'll ever dream of making, but he never really good a huge contract to retire on did he?

He made over 8 million dollars. not spending like a jackass and opening up a business like he has, 8 million would be enough for me to retire on.

That's a little more then I realized. If you're halfway smart with your money I'd think that you make for a easy retirement

Yeah it's a little incomplete because he was drafted in 2001. He got a 480,000 signing bonus then. Not a huge difference, but he may have made close to 10,000,000 when you add in those missing years.

This... PLUS 8 million, is a pretty damn good way to get out of the game if you ask me.

I'm pretty sure he's the Dodgers base running coach.

I think the problem here is people's definition of "retire". If he has $2m-$3m of fairly liquid captial, he can put that to work and "retire" while probably getting a pretty easy six-figure coaching job.
