Isn't this actually true though?

I understand the team can't support that position even if it's true.
But this happens in the NBA and other sports. Cruise control until it matters.
Preseason games in the nfl.

When he's been in the game this long, he probably doesn't give a shite about spring. And only cares about summer to the extent that he needs to get to worlds.
Secondly, the new OP adcs dont fit his style and he's been rather bad on these control/utility adcs.
Just another example of shitty champ release plans. OP then nerfed to make people buy them. And the shitty balancing they do.
