In the process of purchasing first home right now and looking for a good, quality mower. Yard is pretty small so push is all that is necessary. What will give me the best bang for my buck?

A good option as they have a lifetime replacement on most parts...even the blade.

Buy a good brand..Craftsman, Husqvarna, Toro, etc. and get the big wheels on the back. Makes it much easier to push.
I've been through no telling how many Walmart specials, they last a year or two and start acting up.

This isn't your grandfather's Toro. I recently replaced my Toro Personal Pace with a new Husqvarna and am really impressed so far.

I got a Toro super recycler, and wish I hadn't. Not enough power to cut my grass even every week. Should've gone with a Honda pro model

1. Neighborhood kid.
2. Wal-mart special (bought a K-mart special about 24 years ago and it lasted for about 17 years before I sold it at a garage sale).

Just get the cheapest 20" to 22" push mower from Wally World. They'll get the job done and will last 4+ years with no maintenance. Maintain it, and it'll last upward of 8 to 10 years.

Also depends on the type of grass.
Cutting thin grass =/= cutting thick grass

Check lowes for damaged returns I got a key start self propelled Troy Built for $39. It was marked "Blown engine, can't be fixed" I pulled the cord and noticed the blade wasn't spinning.
Took it home, tore it down and saw that they shear pin was bad. A fifty cent part.
Stupid Lowes

I like craftsman, 4 years old so far no problems. I got a self propelled one with the bagger option, highly recommend it.

I've got the cheapest one walmart had. It's been going for 10+ years. Didn't do shite to it for the first 6 or 7. The past few years, I've had to pull the carb off and spray some cleaner through it before I start it for the year. It's sat outside and been rained on for most of that time. I've never drained the gas out of it. fricking thing won't die. Maybe this year. We'll see.
Do get the big back wheels though. I wish I had.

bump...(hey the search function does work sometimes!) I need a new push mow too. Saw a couple good ones at Stine Lumber. Not sure I want the Walmart headache.
