Sounds like he may retire officially soon.

But he feels the same way about his life in Louisiana.
"I'm prepared to stay here for sure," he said. "I'm just being honest. To be a father and a husband is really the ultimate job for me. That's just the way I feel. That's just the way I am."
Theriot acknowledged how odd it seems for a player to be ready to walk away at his age with several teams calling him about reserve jobs in the majors.
"I could definitely see how somebody could look at that and say, 'Wait a minute. Are you serious?' " he said. "That's just where I'm at. My kids are 7, 6 and 4. If I wait until I'm 37 and they're 5 years older than that, then I start to look at, what am I going to miss? What was I not there for?"

Whatever makes him happy. He'll have plenty of opportunities to make money and still be able to spend time with his kids

I think he's trying to show those teams, that want him to be a reserve, that he has other options. Trying to up his price a little bit. I bet he signs with someone.

If that were truly the case, he wouldn't be waiting this late.
I think he legitimately is content with his life right now and won't change that unless he is presented with an opportunity that he can't pass up (i.e. everyday starter).

I heard that last week from a friend.
It's nice to be able to retire at that age if you can.

If he is done, is there a better way to go, than scoring the World Series winning run? I'm not a big a MLB fan, but the Giants are my team. I loved that it was a Tiger that scored the winning run.
I wish him the best in whatever he decides to do. If family is more important, the world needs more people like him.

Nice article. He is, and always will be, my all-time favorite LSU baseball player.
I still have the image of that HR (along with Cora crying on the ground) burned into my head. I was just a kid then, but damn do I remember that like it was yesterday still.
I bet if I walked into the old Rosenblatt I could almost pinpoint the exact location that ball went over the fence and landed.

You change courses like my wife does in conversation. You talking about Ryan being your favorite player, then in the same breath relive Warren's HR vs. Miami. But hey I can roll with that. I've had lots of practice.

Amazing, he helps the Cardinals win the World Series - helps the Giants win the World Series. Then is left without a team.
MLB has got to do something about the player swapping. I can barely tell who's on what team.

I have a soft spot for Theriot. He pitched me batting practice in Alex Box in 2000 or 2001. I hit one to the warning track. The closest I've come to the big leagues. csb.

I still remember when he scored the winning run against long beach st. in omaha then threw his helmet in the air. Awesome moment.

Brad Hawpe was released and is about to retire. He made a great comment

He's too arrogant to work his way back in the league.

Wow what a idiot I am. It was 5:41 in the AM and I was about to end a long night of work. Forgive my stupidity.

Ryan is a class act. Raised right by a lovely BR family who my parents know well...go to the same church.
I was living in Des Moines, Iowa when he was a rising star for the AAA Cubs. Special to see him play at that level too knowing it was just a matter of time before he would be called up. We invited him over to our house for some good old home LA cookin, but he never returned our call. Probably thought we were lying saying we were LSU alumni living that far north.
A huge Cards fan, so special seeing him play well and win a World Series there too. Best of Success to you Ryan Theriot!
