ETA: You could switch the Doors and Floyd. Neither of them were all that influential.

The Doors most influnence is Jim Morrison as the prototypical rockstar with the long hair, leather pants, drug and alcohol diet,etc..

Other than that not much influence. They had a weird band setup with no bassist that never caught on.

Several of those don't belong in the top five. All lists should start with the Beatles, followed closely by Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan. Those three are easily the most influential of the rock era. You can also add Jimi Hendrix to that group.

I would put the Beach Boys right up with there for most influential especially in the last 10 years in indie.

It has become a cliche to cite Pet Sounds as an influence nowadays

Morrison would have been a huge influence if he hadn't self destructed so early.

The Beatles by a mile.

Replace LZ with Hendrix. I like LZ but so much of their stuff was ripped off various blues artists it doesn't make much sense to include them in the top 5.

No question Beatles were #1 of that list, and Doors would be #5, and I really think the Doors did not become an influence until years later. But, in terms of most influential, the above list should include Black Sabbath and Bob Dylan...I can see Hendrix added to this list also. I think the Velvet Underground and Roxy Music had a big influence on later music.
