The Saints have signed TE Benjamin Watson (@BenjaminSWatson) to a 3-year deal #FreeAgency

Benjamin Watson to a three-year contract earlier Monday.
"He's versatile," Payton said. "He's one of those players when you watch the tape: he run blocks well, he's a threat in the passing game, he plays with great leverage, he plays with great experience. He does a lot of things well. When we watched the film on him, we kept getting back to how many times we were putting a tackle in the game to report eligible. I think his signing will maybe give us more versatility."

Cleveland. He's 32. 3 year deal seems a bit long. Maybe he's in good shape.

49 receptions last year for 501 years, 3 TDs.
Good complimentary player, good vet to have. I think that 3 year deal is probably very team friendly, because I don't know how much he has left after the next year or two.

Not excited just yet about this. Of course, obligatory, "trust CSP".
ETA: Just saw Fun Bunch's post. I agree.

3 year deals aren't always 3 year deals.

He's in ridiculous shape

Probaly also helps push his cap hit into future years

my guess is he signed a 3 year deal to play 1 or 2. his 3rd year prolly pays the most and i doubt he sees it unless he tears shite up.
solid pckup for depth IMO. nothing to fap about unless you just want to rub one out for the hell of it.

We needed a TE on the cheap. This guy is serviceable. One less thing to worry about in the draft. Besides LT, we can draft all defense (maybe one WR).

great signing
hope it's not too much
I've always liked his game. I think this is a great get for a position of need.

I would imagine that the plan was to put together a list of TEs that you like, then sign the first one that takes what you're offering.
With this years' FA market considered 'soft', it was only a matter of time before someone signed and did so on the Saints' terms.

I like it. He was pretty solid for Cleveland in an otherwise offensively desolate team
