whatever you buy... make sure the above is met. with that budget, worst thing you could do is buy an underpowered rig
This and do not buy a 2 stroke at any cost. 225-250 2 strokes suck gas. That trip to last island would take at lease 30 gallons maybe more depending on boat and payload. Good luck

I would look at some two strokes....
I have an Optimax with almost 7000 hours on it and it gets about 3 miles to the gallon. I don't think that's terrible. Etec is another to consider.
That being said with all being equal I would get a four stroke now a day. Just don't give up on something with some of the newer two strokes out there.
