Wow, Emmert taking a beating as a stumbling, bumbling NCAA Pres

His tenure is marked by incompetence, lack of credibility and arrogance. The NCAA is under attack and "the bleeding only seems to get worse the longer their current president keeps doing the fighting," ....
He'll be out of a job soon!

Mike n Mike were destroying him this morning. Great point though, he cant take a "I didnt know" approach when he is handing out punishments to head coaches and telling them "they should know about everything". Looks like the Atmosphere of Compliance is catching up with the NCAA. The irony is fabulous actually.

Same can be said of his tenure as LSU chancellor.

What did he say "I don't know" about? I guess I have missed this story since I can't stand Mike n Mike.

The investigators botched the Miami investigation bigtime. They paid the Shapiro guys' attorney (who was representing him in a bankruptcy) to give them info that they were not allowed to ask for themselves, etc. All kinds of unethical shite....
Shapiro is the big Miami booster who was paying kids, and he's now in jail.

About the tactics of the Miami investigation, which are coming out as not very "ethical"

I'm in agreement. The NCAA is a joke right now. He probably should go down for what happened.

It came to light that the NCAA actually bought Shapiro a "burner phone" so as to have some discussions with him totally off-the-record and untraceable.
The payments they made to others-if they would've been under $15K-would've never seen the light of day. They were knowingly paying people involved with the criminal aspect of the Shapiro Investigation in exchange for information they could use in their ongoing investigation.
Most importantly, the NCAA's #2 person-who reports directly to Emmert-was approving payments and could easily be construed to have knowledge of what was going on. Emmert's astoundingly set up the organizational tree there so that only two people directly report to him. Which is almost too fantastic to be believed.
He's tarnished his career in a very, very big way with all of this.

Nickie's lap dog has blown the pooch. I thought he was doing somewhat OK until the Penn St sanctions were handed down. The NCAA had no business getting involved, as bad as it was, it did not break their bylaws. You can't make up the rules as you go along.
I think the State of Pennsylvania's lawsuit against the NCAA will be successful. It was a criminal matter, the criminals were punished, or will be.

+1- Old Emmert has bitten off more than he can chew on this one. He will have to resign to allow the NCAA to clear this and start over.

I disagree. I think with the firing of the main one involved, and if he removes his VP, he can overcome this. He was a GREAT chancellor here, started our flagship programs that raised LSU's entrance requirements, the universities Math scores and other departments increased. We were rising greatly by ranking in your big time charts (U.S. News, Princeton Review, etc.) LSU continued that rise every year until budget cuts (fire Javi) all but destoryed everything he did. He won't his job, until after the NCAA loses in court to Penn.

I think the NCAA was absolutely right to get involved and punish that university. I dont know the merits of the investigation etc so maybe something there but PSU certainly violated bylaws.

Incorrect. The NCAA has been a joke for the vast majority of its existence. They've railroaded a lot more schools than just Penn State and Miami over the years.

Yep.
I heard on his watch, he started this rule or whatever that head coaches can be held responsible for any recruiting missteps by their assistant coaches.
So yea, it's hypocritical to have an investigation of this magnitude completely botched and him shy away from responsibility.
The NCAA is a horrible, horrible organization.

But the problem is that the punishment violated the NCAA's boundaries, if I recall correctly.
