A lot of hog hunters introduced them to their clubs when they could no longer hunt them with dogs on public land and leased land. That coupled with open range land that was previously regulated by people that kept hogs for a living when those hogs can no longer be kept in check due to the current land leasing system=hog explosion. Louisiana has been reluctant to release the hog eradication for fear of idiots killing deer.

We are just now seeing the repercussions of shite that happened years ago. There is nothing left to keep them in check and the old methods will no longer work. And yes, they are in direct competition with our deer for food sources. You couple that with the fact that are hardwoods are getting fewer and fewer......you get the picture.

you want to get em off your place, put dogs on em. They'll leave for a little while, but they'll be back. No one wants dogs put on em because they want to deer hunt. Passive trapping and shooting on site simply does not work.

This isn't a new thing. It has been happening for years. Maybe other areas are just now getting hogs, but they have been around for decades, if not centuries.
