That's a really good point. The only thing I can think of is that these guys have been in America so long that they don't know he is dead and why he said Zhukov isn't what he once was. That doesn't work because you think they would know that in their embassy.

this makes sense. Also wouldn't be too bad of a twist to throw in on the family/country stance they had in the 1st episode

It is about the only thing I could think of. That conversation happened in the embassy though. No way someone who was high enough to be involved with Directorate S wouldn't know he was dead.

I agree.
fun fact i stumbled across earlier today, Joe Weisberg, creator of the show, used to work for the CIA

Well we know where he draws his inspiration from. The Cold War really is an untapped era imo.

The Marshal Zhukov's death was worldwide news, on par with Eisenhower, Monty, or any of the other main WWII commanders. The Soviet agents in our story would definitely have heard about it in American newsbroadcasts. At any rate, he was strictly a military man and later, Defense Minister of the Soviet Union. He never had anything to do directly with espionage, and was already retired from public life by the time these agents were recruited.
Unless the writers are going way, way off the real timeline--and I don't think so, they seem to be trying to stay pretty close to reality--this guy is just some KGB officer who happens to have the same last name as the famous general. Probably because a lot of people have heard it at one time or another and it'll sound less "foreign" than if they'd named him Podgorev or something.

Makes more sense but the one guy did say "Zhukov isn't what he once was." That has to mean he was once powerful. It still doesn't mean they can't be doing what you just said.

This is what I was thinking.

I'm surprised the Soviets are able to talk so freely in their embassy. Seems like they would be worried about bugs and such.

I am sure they have countermeasures in place.

The way they're making it seem, is that the Soviets are much more advanced in than the Americans to this point.
The Americans are celebrating that they got one low level embassy employee to flip, while the Russians are all over every level just about already.
I'm really liking the show, but damn it causes confusing feelings. The bad guys are the good guys, the good guys are the bad guys, but some of them aren't really that bad.

This was accurate when Reagan was elected. Remember Carter was in office and gutted the military and the CIA during his four years. It was a really bad time for those of us that lived through it.

Ah, ok. I was born in '83, so I'm not well versed in a lot of it.

This was undoubtedly a secure area within the embassy with extremely limited access. Like the meeting room the FBI uses in other scenes.

I don't like John Boy being in this show. Forever in my mind as a hayseed hillbilly.

Where can I watch last night's episode? FX only has the pilot on there. Anyone know if they'll put this one up later on? If not when is it replaying on FX?
