Soccer is not a tv friendly event. It's not exciting. Sure you'll get a sweet bicycle kick once a month, but it's a candy arse sport. There's no physicality to it at all and if you cough near a player he looks like he just got stabbed.

NBC just signed a 3 year contract worth $250 mil to televise Premier League games.

Soccer is hard to watch on TV but in real life its awesome to watch IMO.

To be fair, approval from NBC doesn't mean all that much

I don't know shite about soccer but I know enough to know its incredibly physical

Seriously, you really have no idea what you are talking about. It is incredibly TV friendly. Limited substitutions, no TV timeouts to sell me some shitty beer or pump Applebee's, no fake timeout called the 2 minute warning to pump more crap down my throat, and much more physical than the average Ameritard thinks.

His brees troll in the flacco thread was pretty decent. He's doing some good work.

Outside of the World Cup and the Fox Soccer Channel, I have never seen a soccer game on my television and I have every single channel that Dish Network offers.
ESPN, ESPN2, NBCSN. Also, you can games on shite like Univision, but I really do not count that.
FWIW, the Champions League final (triple the Super Bowl viewership, I believe) was on FOX in the US.

should he be thrown in with the likes of roy and Verlander?

Verlanderbeast isn't a troll, he's just stupid.

For two years. ESPN had the UCL Final until 2010. The ratings for that game that was played on a Wednesday afternoon on US time had ratings high enough that UEFA changed the Finals to a Saturday. That game had double the rating of the almighty LSU Tigers CWS win and soccer is more watched in bars and pubs than at home.

Cool. The Dodgers are going to get paid over $250 mil a year for their broadcast rights.
Let me know when the MLS gets a single game with over 5 million viewers.

Been hearing this for 25 years. As a kid all we played was soccer during recess. When we got older we played Basketball, Baseball and Football.
I've been hearing it for much of my life too. When I was a kid I played soccer until I got into middle school, then I switched over to football. Soccer is a good sport to play when you are young. It keeps you moving and gives you plenty of exercise. I don't regret playing it but I don't regret leaving the game either.

Oh really? Why are there hundreds of soccer flopping videos like this one all over YouTube?
It's not a physical sport. You can't even make contact with another player without someone flopping or falling on their arse and wanting a penalty. I'll give them credit for having good cardio, but it's not a contact sport at all.

No shite? Never seen any of this. How are the ratings (objectively)?
Also I saw something scrolling across the tv today about some matches being fixed. What's the deal with that?
Posted on 2/4/13 at 11:32 pm to Tim Taylor
I've never seen a QB or kicker sell a hit. Just because its not football doesn't mean it's not physical.

I do not know. Look them up.
Obviously, soccer is not the most popular sport in the US. However, there is nothing wrong with being about the fifth or so most popular sport. America has a huge sports space (far more than any other country).
