Why doesn't Curtis put more emphasis on the other sports if they are so far behind?
Well, they're full of shite. On top of football, they won like 4 other state championships last year too.

A coach from PVB was on 104.5 late yesterday & he said one huge issue is that right now, no one has any idea what schools will be in what classification. He said that as of the vote last wk, there are 80 odd schools listed as select; however, he said that there is a strong possibilty that that number could jump up to as high as 120-140. He said that precludes any group from trying to make out a schedule for next yr.

most schedules should already be made by now... i knew our non-district schedule 3 weeks ago, and East Jeff's before Christmas

No more hypocrites than the public schools that recruit and abuse the minority/majority rules to their advantage bitching about private schools.
Now this, I agree with. I looked at the list of how the schools voted. There were several public schools that recruit as much as anybody that voted "yes" to kick the private schools out of the playoffs.

I heard a funny story yesterday. Someone told me that if the private association formed but wouldn't allow Curtis in, Curtis would stay in the LHSAA. This would most likely mean Evangel wouldn't be let in as well. Therefore, the two teams left in the LHSAA would be the two teams this is all about, and you can't have a two team division. They would have to be let to play in the regular division therefore creating a huge irony in the LHSAA. The schools voted to get rid of Curtis and ECA and those would be the only two schools left out of the selects!
I'd laugh my arse off if that happened, mainly from the idea of sticking it to the remaining 300+ public schools.

Which is a point I made in a separate thread using the Baton Rouge 2A district as an example.
Redemptorist, Episcopal, and Dunham are all clearly select while Northeast is clearly non-select.
Capitol and Istrouma are in a grey area because I'm fairly certain Capitol is a charter school, requiring them to be in the select division, while I think Istrouma is heading that way to avoid a state takeover.

there is a two step process to scheduling
agreeing to a home/home
Signing the game contract
What this latest development is probably preventing is private schools signing game contracts because they dont want to have any contracts in place if they decide to leave the LHSAA

Just repeating what the PVB coach said. What you know was based on the school system as it existed 3 wks/last Dec. All that may well have changed, or could, when different schools get placed in one camp or another. The charter/voucher schools are pretty much up in the air, to some extent anyway, according to this coach.

This may have been discussed but I can't read 40-plus pages of posts.
Schools like ED White (who does not have a recruiting controversy by the way) that are smaller 3A schools will get hosed in this new format of only 2 select divisions. EDW has under 300 boys that attend and would likely face much larger private schools that have 1000-plus boys in the playoffs. Schools of this size have absolutely no shot of advancing far in the playoffs. This also totally contradicts the talk of "leveling the playing field" by splitting the public/selects schools apart. However, the folks who started this whole process refuse to recognize this fact or just don't care.

Fixed.
Winnfield wants a trophy for everyone by letting 75% of all teams in the state into the playoffs and getting those evil meanies at Evangel and Curtis out of their way.
They don't give a shite who gets screwed over out of the 90+ private / select schools in the process.

I have been keeping up with all of this since day 1 and I guess I'm ignorant but can someone please tell me why the select schools are upset with the split? Is it a money thing? A competition thing? I seriously don't know.

Big thing, competing for only 2 championships

Public schools told the "selects" (a created, poorly defined term) that they need to keep on sharing their money with the publics, then go off and deal with the Evil Empire in the playoffs, while all the Publics go to the playoffs and little Johnny can have a trophy because those meanies at Curtis won't be around to steal it from him.
Publics are basically using Obama economics, robbing Peter to pay Paul during the regular season, and then sending Peter to play JT come playoff time. These schools can best be identified by noting their uncanny resemblance to the part of Michelle's anatomy that can be found right below the waistline of her designer gown. And I'm not talking about the backside.

Be honest. Do the private schools give a shite about rural schools in N. LA? Don't be butthurt over schools looking out for their own perceived interest. That's what they're supposed to do.

I do. We've had to make 3 road trips to Shreveport in the playoffs in the past 2 years.

Screw that. I don't mind jacking up the class on schools that outright recruit, but punishing a school because they "almost accidentally" recruit is bull shite.
It's not punishment. It's placing schools in a place where their resources would allow them to fairly compete.
I am completely sympathetic with the rural school complaint that no rural public school can compete with what happens when an urban private school becomes a "destination" in its community. If U-High is doing a good job with its football program, it's going to attract players from around a metro area of 800,000 while the little 2A town of 5k people is just going to attract their townies. Let's face it, nobody's moving to Logansport because it has a good football team unless they have a job in or near Logansport. And there ain't many of those. Those schools truly have to play with what they got.
That's why the multiplier makes sense. That's why having a multiplier based at least partly on population access makes total sense.
Again, I'd make the availability of need-based financial aid a bigger part of a formula than population access because if Crescent City Baptist is giving no scholarships to football players, it shouldn't have to bump up 2 classes just because it's in the middle of Metairie.
But if you are U-High or Curtis or Evangel and you do little things to get those players in, then by all means, bump them several classes. If you want to protect your crappy 2A-quality girls tiddlywinks team from getting crushed by Archbishop Chappelle, then quit recruiting a 5A-level football and boys basketball teams.

I find this to be myth almost to the level of the "private schools recruit a bunch" myth. My experience is M-to-M kids tend to struggle academically, which sort of diminishes thair potential impact. They struggle not because they are dumb or anything, but usually the school they come from is behind academically, so there's an adjustment to the new school that a lot of kids struggle with.
That may not always be the case, but I was surprised to see how little M-to-M has affected some schools.
I wouldn't say it as a blanket statement, like "M-to-Ms never help," but the impact is less than some people think. Of course, all it takes is a handful of M-to-Ms to turn a lilly-white school into a school with a bunch of SEC kids and everybody thinks it's out of hand.

EDW is one of the larger 3A schools...matter of fact there were talks before this whole mess that their numbers were close enough to possibly consider the jump to 4A and join Vandy in their district.
