Sorry for yet another handgun thread but recent political events make me feel like it's finally time to get a handgun. I'm asking because I understand many gun shops have even sold out of their display models so I want to know what will be the best fit in case a good model for what I want is not in stock.

I'm looking for a 9mm that is not a compact and will not be used for concealed carry. I have bigger hands so the fit is important. I've used a handgun or two in the past where it felt like my hand came off the bottom of the grip a bit and I really don't like that feeling.

I've held a Glock 9mm before that felt good but I want to know if I should broaden my horizons.

TIA.

I have a Ruger SR9, and really like it. My hands are not real big, but it fits me well. You should put one in your hand and try it as one of your options.

You could try the XDm and M&P pistols. They both come with interchangeable back straps that include large size inserts.

If you have bigger hands, the H&K or the Berretta 92 will be good.

The XD and Glock are for normal people. The Kahr will be fine for smaller hands.

Glock 17 or HK USP. Both are great guns. Parts are easier and less expensive usually for the Glock.

I'd highly recommend trying the Beretta 92fs.

A Gen 4 Glock 17 has the adjustable backstrap - no direct experience (some like, many don't), but in theory, can make it even more comfortable for larger hands (with the largest of the 3 grip sizes).

Sig P226 is another fine choice, from a fine company. Sig also has the newer P250 in the full sized configuration looks like a hoss (and more similiar in ergonomics to the Glock and M&P models than the "standard" Sig pistols). The 250 is priced fairly reasonably.

I can't recommend the Beretta 92, but is is also a popular holster gun that would be a good fit for larger hands.

If you find a gun you really like, there are options to add a wrap around grip if the grip size may be the sticking point.

Good luck with the search.
