I was at the Auburn game in 06. I was so damn pissed they didn't call PI

Was also there, the AU fans all sensed that last drive JR will beat them; refs wouldn't let it happen! Also, CLM/JF play calling etc.!

Throw up the SFP bat signal!

Jamarcus with a hot hand could win by 2-3 tds... But the 06 team had inept moments on offense (Florida) so I don't know

Water under the bridge BUT you can't help but stop and think.
If JR doesn't fumble at the Goal Line against in the Swamp, Florida may very well not have those 2 NC's from 2006 and 2008.

Don't look in the Rearview mirror. Who cares about 2006. Move forward.

Jimbo at AU. The play calling was HORRIBLE. 5 TIMES inside the 50 and ZERO points. The refs did NOT screw us in that game.
FLA was just a game the team was NOT ready to play. Kinda like this year.

I think most people who romanticize the 2006 team are just people who fall in love with talent, and they are blind to a lot of team issues that held that squad back.
As most know, I have never been a big JaMarcus defender, going all the way back to his chicken-running-around-with-its-head-cut-off debut in 2004 against Oregon State, but it cannot be emphasized enough--THE OFFENSIVE PROBLEMS IN 2006 WENT BEYOND WHETHER OR NOT JAMARCUS HAD A GREAT GAME OR NOT.
Even I will admit that his last 4.5 games at LSU were a thing of beauty. No LSU QB has ever had a streak like that, and it's interesting to think what could have happened had he stayed his senior year.
But even DURING that streak of brilliant QB passing performances, LSU STILL had an absolutely putrid performance against a 4-8 Ole Miss team, needing overtime to pull out the win.
Without a big return against Arky, LSU probably loses that game as well. So we're not just talking about a bad offensive outing or two against Auburn & Florida. We're talking Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss, & Arkansas, where the O underperformed. This is more than just bad luck.
Compare this to the 2007 offense, which never scored less than 28 points in a game, a consistency which few teams outside the 1995 Huskers ever managed to accomplish. And this is despite ankle & knee injuries to Arnold, Doucet, & Flynn, thus making each of the 3 most crucial players on O miss significant games.
People bag on Crowton all the time, and justifiably so in my opinion, but there was no doubt that he was an enormous upgrade from the shite show Jimbo was running in 2006.

Didn't we win the sec championship game 21 14? Meaning we did score less than 28 every game? (flynn was hurt though)

Yeah. I'm a little rusty on my 2006 vs. 2007 arguments. It was Flynn who always produced 28 ppg in starts (including the Peach Bowl from a previous season), not the 2007 LSU offense itself.
And the offense wasn't too bad against Alabama & Arkansas. Just not as good as you would expect.
I include the Tennessee game because of the 4 turnovers, including the pick-6 that put the Tigers down 17-7 on the road in the 3Q. But that 2nd half against the Vols was the beginning of JR's miracle 4.5-game finish to his college career. Even so, the O was prone to fits and starts and trouble scoring, whereas the '07 team only had the Kentucky game on the road (where all 3 main players were either inactive or hobbled) or the 1st halfs against Tulane or Arkansas to bitch about.

Alabama and Arkansas were good teams that year. You can't play in the SEC and not expect to have those kind of games no matter how good your QB is.
You could look back at every team in the SEC who has one in the last 7 years and point out a game where they struggled. It's not bad offense, it's just what happens when you play quality opponents week in and week out.
Eta: By the way, I loved the 2006 LSU team and there is no way they should have lost two games.
