You can't wear down teams by going 3 and out...

Their hurry up only works because they consistently get first downs. Our power game works by keeping the opposing defense on the field for so long when we only run a few plays. Compare this: Oregon can get 5 plays off in 40 seconds of clock time where as LSU might not even run 2. However, both teams possess the ball for the same amount of actual (not clock time).

What LSU does is consistently run clock like they are up by one score with 4 minutes left the entire game. Even if LSU goes 3 and out, they still manage to take 2 minutes off the game clock. Under the Oregon system, LSU would only take off 30-40 seconds if that.

Both philosophies are equally effective (Oregon's possibly more effective) when the team is making first downs. However, if you are struggling offensively, the Les Miles Method of offense is a vastly more effective system.

I'm not sure where this idea comes from that Oregon only runs fast. They mix tempo up all the time. They just went on a 5 minute, 10 play drive to close out the KSU game.

They take the extra time when it benefits them and go quickly when it benefits them. It's all situational.
