re: The catch-22 that is being Les Miles

You can't see that LSU fans think LSU has more talent that every team in America? So LSU fans think LSU should win everytime by 20 or so and if they don't it's Miles fault cause he "can't coach up all that talent"?
Could not disagree with you more. Most LSU fans know football and know we have talent. They also are aware that at least 15 teams have similar talent. Our offense being in the bottom half of the nation is the frustrating part.
I never expect to easily win a game. I do expect a well coached team.
Why? Because we have one of the highest paid coaches and assistants in the nation.

All I'm really trying to say is that miles is VERY good at one main part of his job and average at another. Its very rare to find someone who can do both consistently.

Serious question, are you and others of the opinion that he is the worst coach in the country or something? no one shits on their team and coaches like lsu fans do.
Nope. I have never said that. I have always said that I am not sold that Miles is the great recruiter and coach some of you make him out to be. I think LSU recruits itself better than Miles. In state talent has grown up knowing LSU to be elite and that is huge in recruiting. Miles biggest flaw is he refuses to improve the weaknesses in our team. Offense is killing us. We have the talent to be better. He is too slow to correct the issue. It is also doubtful he will hire an OC and let him run the show.
Last year we lost the BCSNCG because of our inept passing game. Nothing has really improved. We are still an offense that relies too heavily on the running game and when we play teams with great front 7s we struggle.
Just look at development. Last year we blew teams out with 2 senior QBs that didn't back each other up for most of the year. Miles knew Mett would be the starter this year yet never tried to develop him during those blowouts. To me that is inexcusable. BTW we have NO QB ready if Mett gets hurt.

Legit criticism.

Spot on. We were fortunate this year that Mett stayed healthy.

spare me. Its not shitting on a program to offer constructive criticism of its weakness(s). There seems to be a consensus that the coaching needs to improve. Sorry you can't accept that.
More sorry that your type insists on underachieving yet feeling good about it. Its the same attitude pervasive in our educational system (hell in our government entities as well). Look how good thats working for us!!

whats even more ridiculous is how the Miles defenders will credit him for his skill at recruiting top talent, but then claim the talent level isn't what its hyped to be.
Well which is it? Does LSU recruit talent or not? Does it not develop its talent? does it use its talent incorrectly?
Regardless, its all on the Coach(s). What part of this do you sunshine pumpers not understand?

I don't expect LSU to have the best talent every season. But I do expect the Coach to develop and use his recruits in a manner where we don't lose to an underranked ACC opponent or play close games against rent-a-wins like Towson or lesser conference opponents.
This x1000000. Says the offense that has a great game when it struggles to gain 250 yds and 21 points

So one could make the argument that LSU actually does better than the rest of the top 5 ahead of them except for bama.
But we'll just skip over that fact since it doesn't support an agenda.
All that list does is show LSU has elite talent.
Are you trying to say LSU has to have the best talent to have an offense ranked in the top half of D-1?

I actually think he would get less flack if he had the same record but did it with better coaching
Well, gee, no kidding. Better coaching is what most of us would like to actually witness.

Any GOOD coach should have a good recruiting class at LSU due to in state talent and no other big school to compete with
Thats what was always said but Saban and Miles are the only people to do it well.

I care about winning not watching good coaching. Sorry.
Don't care how its accomplished.

No I'm trying to say that the overall record for LSU is better than any teams not named bama in recent history, some with better talent.
But no credit is given there.

Well said.

Bain chose LSU over offers from Miami, Oklahoma, Alabama and Florida.
"It's the coaching," Bain said when asked what put LSU over the top. "They are just like my coaches back at home. I had fun, and I knew they would be the right fit once I fell in love with the coaches."
quote:
Pocic is the 13th commit for LSU coach Les Miles and his coaching staff in the class of 2013.
“Just they’re the top,” Pocic said. “They win ball games. I want to play at that level. I just felt at home with the coaches. It was great.”
quote:
“I’m looking forward to earning the respect of my future teammates at LSU and to play for a coach like Les Miles, someone who has won a National Championship in the past and knows how to get his players to perform at their very best. I’m also very excited to be coached and mentored by Steve Kragthorpe. As my position coach, we have already developed a great relationship and I know that will only get stronger in the future." Jennings said.
I can probably keep going if you want.

Said this ALL season last season. JJ returning screwed us out of TWO possible NCs because of Les' love affair with him.

JLee would have shite the bed vs. Alabama as well. They were screwed either way.
That's all Lee had ever done vs. Alabama.

I'm on your team prominentwon but JJ was swimming in a waterbed of shite in that game.

Eh, I'm not necessarily on Miles side anymore. That offense is crap.
I'm just arguing stupid points people are trying to make. I'm sure it's coming off as taking up for Miles, but I'm not. But when you bring up flawed points to try to fit an agenda, it drives me insane.

I saw a <50% QB, lethargic routes and late DBs. None of these guys are real matchup headaches for anyone, save maybe Landry and the odd play he isn't overthrown.
Get off your high horse.

Recruit a ridiculously high caliber of athletes then get killed for not turning that talent into 13-0 teams. Its as if the recruiting actually goes against him.
No one will care, but I actually like the book Catch-22. This isn't a Catch-22. A Catch-22 is a situation where a person cannot escape a problem.
For instance, in the book the only way an air force pilot can be grounded is if he's crazy. Any pilot requesting a psych evaluation hoping to be found not sane enough to fly, and thereby escape dangerous missions, would thereby demonstrate his sanity because anyone who wants to get out of combat duty isn't really crazy. Therefore, there is no escape.
Here it looks like Les just needs to win.
I know, I know, tl;dr

Convenient that we'll never know how JL would have responded had he not known Les Miles was giving JJ butt massages on the sidelines during games looking for any excuse to put him in.
It was a joke to bench JL the rest of the season because of two bad throws especially after that abortion of a game on 1/9.
JJ basically played every backup snap behind JL at first and then practically every down once Miles had has way.
And Mett...just sat there having to wait another year for everything to click. He plays more last season....we beat Florida this season, and possibly Bama.
