City Grocery is great
I will def. be visiting this place next time I visit Oxford. John was very giving with his time and money after Katrina to help certain N.O. restaurants.

FWIW, Abner's, Newk's, and McAlister's all started in Oxford.
So, while you may be visiting a "chain", if you go to the Abner's or Newk's near the Square, you are visiting the original.
Oh, and in this order: Ajax, Boure, City Grocery.
Bottletree Bakery over BBB if you are looking for a cup of coffee and something small. BBB is you are famished and may want to skip lunch.

Newk's
A manager that I worked with at McAlister's helped start Newk's.

And both are very average fast food spots. Not even worth mentioning unless one is trying to save money.

City Grocery, even for lunch, is in another universe from Boure and Ajax. Those places are both solid, but are basically above-average casual lunch spots. City Grocery is a destination restaurant for the region. That said, the roast beef poboy at Ajax is excellent.
