I just don't understand how you justify downgrading her for not writing the song. Actors perform material created by someone else. That's their job. And she did I hers very very well.

Susan Boyle is the original singer? If not, then she covers the song also
lol you do realize that song is like 40 years old right? Susan Boyle covered it on a talent show.

Les Miserables is this years "The Artist." Overrated shite artsy film that will win awards because of how "unique" and "different" it is from everything else. Looper was 20x better than this POS film and Hathaway was much better in TDKR. "oh she lost alot of weight and sings for the role! OSCAR WORTHY"

maybe you're misunderstanding my point. I'm not downgrading her for not writing the song and I've never once said that. I'm just calling it what it is. she did a cover of a song and did it very well. my point/opinion and purpose of this thread is that she shouldn't win an Oscar just for singing a song and making herself cry while singing it.

As opposed to reading a line and making herself cry?

the point being that she didn't just hold her own in that scene, she fricking KILLED it.
Most people I've spoken with or read articles from have said that was clearly the defining scene in the movie. Considering the difficulty of the scene in itself, and then her executing it at such a high level it blows away anything else that's going to be out there in that category.
Think of it as her Heisman moment. Hers will be so much better than anyone else's and since SAs don't carry movies, there isn't much else to go up against it.
This seems so slam dunk to me.

What the frick is the guy talking about with this cover song shite? That's some of the dumbest rational I've ever read.
You saw the movie or did you just hear about her performance? I was not looking forward to seeing the movie at all but her performance blew me away. She absolutely killed her role, I don't care how small her part was.

Saw the movie and she was the only part I enjoyed. Crowe ruined the rest for me.

I thought Crowe was fine after the beginning. I thought Jackman's voice was worse. I actually think Crowe's acting was good; I think he captured what you're supposed to think of Javert.
I didn't like Eddie Redmayne's (Marius) voice. I know he was lovestruck but he came off way too weak, IMO.
I enjoyed Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter.
The kid playing Gavroche was very, very good IMO.
Samantha Barks was incredible.
I hated Amanda Seyfried.
