I don't see why the ref felt the need to stop Amir from touching the ball for two seconds during a dead ball.
Johnson tried to rip the ball out of the refs hands, not just touch the ball.

If Odummy had a son, he'd look just like Amir

Has to be one of the strangest sequence of events I've ever seen in a basketball game.

I know most athletes have superstitions but that's a little overboard.

You can't make this shite up

I don't blame him. It's a few months until baseball season, needed to do something to get his team mentioned.

Amir Johnson was retarded. But, I will say this. Referees need to be punished for losing their temper in like fashion that players are punished. The ref turning to Johnson's face to throw him out was uncalled for. He was essentially taunting him and is lucky he didn't get punched in the head. He should've walked over to the scorer's table and signaled the technical foul and the dismissal.
When a referee has to "show his authority" in any manner other than making the call, he deserves to be punished. There is no need for a ref to ever make a call directed towards a player, and certainly not in such an exaggerated manner as this.

This is ridiculous. The ref has the right to throw him out for acting like a child. So the ref is "lucky" johnson didn't further act like a child and punch him? This guy was throwing a tantrum like a 7 year old. Act like an adult and the ref doesnt have to rub it in his face by throwing him out. These spoiled children in the NBA need to grow up!

could also be used to describe the referees actions. that's all i'm saying. did Amir Johnson deserve to be punished? Yes. Should the referee act like a moron in executing that punishment? Absolutely not. And, yes. When a referee/ump acts like a child in response to a player acting like a child, they greatly increase the risk of getting injured by the player. So, the ref was lucky that other players stepped in and kept him from getting punched.
Again, if the ref walks over to the scorer's table and gives the technical and dismissal sign, then it is not nearly as big a deal as the referee acting like a child, throwing a tantrum, rubbing it in his face, acting spoiled, etc.

Looks like the ref was actually manning up. He didn't toss him from afar. He looked him in the eyes and said, you are gone because you're an idiot. He showed he wasn't backing down just because Johnson was trying to intimidate him.

which is childish. It's pretty obvious we disagree on this. but IMO, the referee acting like he did is no better than the player acting like he did. they both lost control of the situation and acted inappropriately.
It isn't the referee's job to "man up", "not back down", etc. It is his job to referee a basketball game.

Well since they cant shoot the ball, might as well rub it.

And he can't do this if the players are challenging him on every call. He has to establish that it is his job to call the game and theirs to respect his calls. Not agree with them, but respect them.

Seriously? A player challenges you on every call; you warn them, give them a technical, or eject them. There are rules in place that allow the referees to handle these situations. But, being overly emotional and making a call in a player's face does nothing to resolve the issue.

Has to? I think it is pretty well established in the rule book that the refs call the game. Referees have the ability to give technicals and to eject players. This authority will be respected because they players have no choice. Acting like a jerk when you make a call does nothing to establish more authority or respect. It is already there, in the rules.
