Every Beatle has a solo song better than any single Beatles song except John. That guy just had no idea how to craft. Ringo? It don't come easy. Boom.

I know. He was turrible. I liked Women for a few days then realized how bad it was. Just think how much better the Beatles would have been if they did not have to waste space on his stuff.
Speaking of, I totally get the DBT discussion. The reason? Patterson Hood. For the most part, his songs suck. He also takes up the bulk of the space. If one looks to just Isbell/Cooley songs, I don't think there would be such a preference for the solo stuff.

Yes, John Lennon was horrible.
I just... What?

No. TNP are a side project. A Canadian "supergroup" if you will. Dan Bejar's Destroyer also predates TNP. And AC Newman is a songwriting genius. I love Neko, but I wish she'd let Newman write for her more. He's better at it.
Neil Young is my answer. All of his bands are inferior to his solo work.

I like a lot of Morrissey's solo stuff

Peter Murphy is better than Bauhaus.
And Love and Rockets(not really solo) is better than Bauhaus too.
Oh and Justin Tiberlake solo is waaaaay better than Nsync.

And he's also notable for helping RHCP craft their most mediocre album.

Depending on my mood MAYBE Frusciante. I love pretty much everything he did with the Chili Peppers but some of the solo stuff is too hard to pass up. Even the shittier RHCP albums/songs are solid work by him and live he DEFINITELY brought them to life.
George Harrison probably.
Maybe Chris Shiflett if we're only looking at "his work solo" vs. "his work in Foo".

-Neil Young
-John Frusciante
-Not exactly solo but I prefer SOME Breeders stuff to Pixies stuff
-Michael Jackson
-Bjork
-Frank Zappa
I also agree with the Lennon debate. I never thought his solo material was that great. IMO George has the best solo material followed by Paul.

I hate Anthony Kiedis with a passion, so it's really easy. It's a shame, I am a big fan of every other member of RHCP, but Kiedis makes almost every song unbearably cheesy with his vocals.

Her solo stuff is more country and folk than rock. Though Middle Cyclone is closer to her New Porno stuff than any of her earlier albums. But yeah, her own stuff tends to have a slower pace and while Neko has a great voice, I think Newman makes better use of it in his songs.
All for Swinging You Around is a near perfect pop song, and its not even in the top of most people's Neko TNP songs.

Pretty much my thoughts. It doesn't bother me AS bad on the older stuff though. John just blows my mind live. He could take their weaker songs and make them just come to life live.

I love Neko, Bejar and Newman's solo stuff... I love the NP... I cant say I like one more than the other...
I was going to say Gram Parsons... and it may be true. I def prefer his solo stuff to his work with the Byrds by a nose... but its kind of a wash with the Burrito Bros.
A few others fall into this category...
I'd prob agree that Neil Young is the only one that jumps off the page

I cant believe someone prefers Jay Farrar solo to Uncle Tupelo or even Son Volt... Just don't get it, but to each their own..
