Normally outrageously high or is this just a scam this week by delta guessing most people will buy their airfare this week? That's what happened to me last year from LGA to nola I bought week BCS was announced and got raped and my buddy's bought the next week and paid like half. Any thoughts?

ATL is usually pretty cheap since it's such a big hub

look at airtan and delta and look to go somewhere else besides atlatna but make sure you connect through atlanta. book a one way flight and get off the plane. i do it all teh tiem and it work. airtran to charlotte is usally a good one. can't check luggage but it's worth the savings

I once saved a good bit by flying to B'Ham and getting a rental.

Yeah I tried that slick trick once and then they wouldn't let me in the plane on the way back as they had figured that scam out and only let you on at the round trip destination

Well duh, you voided your contract. Only works for one way flights on the outbound.

This, hubs are usually more expensive as a destination it's a common complaint by residents in ATL, just not this expensive they want 690 per round trip from Hartford, providence and Logan to ATL 30th to 1st that's crazy

Well then why would someone suggest I do this ,? I do need to get back you know.

No competition on direct flights...

January 1 is a very busy travel day. And really anything between 12/22 and 1/1 is in high demand.

Yeah maybe I'm screwed I tried doing a return on second but it was only slightly cheaper I got to fly 3 so ouch. Last year BCSCG was like ten days later and it was definitely a one week gouge game then but maybe not now as its New Years well see

Because flights are priced by their route. So the high price may be a result of the outbound being higher.
For instance: BTR-ATL-BTR may be $500.
The BTR-ATL could very well be $400 and the ATL-BTR $100.
So on the outbound you book a one-way BTR-ATL-XXX for $200 then book the one-way return flight ATL-BTR for $100.
Just saved $200. If you do it a few times, they'll catch you but if its once a year or something, just claim you had to get off in ATL for an unexpected emergency/mtg/whatever if anyone inquires.
Obviously, you can't check any luggage on the outbound.

book one way tickets on separate reservations.
they've never said anything to me doing this. but if they do haev a story about how this was your plan but you unexpectedly had to get off the plane. they can't prove that you weren't supposed to drive from final destination back to atlanta for your return flight.
i do it all the time and it's alwasy worked and they've never said anything to me.

Even if they do "catch" me how would it beva problem? Is this a violation of that contract I never read somehow? I mean it seems equity is against them since they are the ones playing games with the fares to begin with.

I've noticed it's cheaper to fly through atlanta than to atlanta most of the time

Yes. Hidden city ticketing is against their T&C which you agreed to when you purchase the ticket.
