putting a scoped 7mag on the neck or behind front shoulders is over kill? does it kill one deader than a thirty thirty? IMO, even at 50 yards and the thickest thicket u can sit in,, i want a scope. I used to feel the same as you, but not past about 1980 when optics really, really started improving... i believed in iron sights, then move away scope, then see under scope,,, bullshite,, when that scope comes up, i can see small limbs and vines that i never could before and count eyelashes, right handed or left handed from 5 yards to 500 yards ... Again,, my opinion..

I've never hunted with a rifle that didn't have a scope and don't ever plan to. Scopes are just too damn nice and simple to use.

I have, and I'll never go back. I'm still trying to figure out how to get a scope on my dad's old remington bolt .22.

Even my first pellet gun has a scope mount welded to the top

I had brass ones made just for that Benjamin barrel, but I was deadly with those iron sights. Those mounts got knocked around too easy. Had to stop using them.

quote:me too...we didnt have em in the beginning, then they were so wobbly and unclear that we would put em on to see horns with, but not trust them to make the shot.. but seriously around 80, late 70's, things got alot better.. clear, light gathering, steady, etc..
I have, and I'll never go back.

I kinda wish I had learned with iron sights, because I'm pretty damn bad with them. I can hit what I'm shooting at, but it takes me too long to get my shite together

I killed like 35 ceder waxwings under the same tree. 3 pumps to keep noise down. Dumb bastards would fly away and then fly right back.

o·ver·kill (vr-kl)
n.
1. Destructive nuclear capacity exceeding the amount needed to destroy an enemy.
2. Excessive killing.
3. An excess of what is necessary or appropriate for a particular end: "government overkill in dealing with dissent" (Jesse Unruh).
tr.v. (vr-kl) o·ver·killed, o·ver·kill·ing, o·ver·kills
To destroy (an enemy or enemy target) with more nuclear force than necessary.
This is the definition of overkill. In our hunting world overkill IMO ain't around

"Brush Gun" does not necessarily people are shooting through branches and stuff.
A brush gun refers to a gun that handles well and points quick in thick short range terrain.

Yea I didn't see any supporters talking about .30-30 bullets plowing through branches and palmettos

Well I might shoot through palmettos if I could see most of the deer. Depends on situation.
