Grant Hill, right. Primed to be the face of the league. Move to Orlando to team with what was then a Top 10 player in T-Mac. Blows my mind that he's still in the league.

Randy Livingston. Heard crazy stories as I'm sure others have.

Greg Oden was a perfect center for the future of the NBA. A prototypical NBA center right when there would've been a shortage.
But Len Bias is probably the biggest what if and for good reason.

Tracy Mcgrady is my answer.

With Hill, you can at least reasonably imagine how he would have turned out because he had some seasons at his peak.
I would say that my biggest "what if" player is one of those guys from the 1980s who played all their games on drugs and washed out. Roy Tarpley, Chris Washburn, Michael Ray Richardson, etc

Grant Hill, right.
is the correct answer. He was getting his shot to play with another elite player and the guy was the most popular player in the league at the time. If his prime would have existed(extended) the Thug Image of the NBA Post Jordan would have never existed .Orlando would have had multiple shots at the Lakers and Spurs. They would have dominated the weak Eastern Conference. Move a piece here or there and they have at least 2 titles by 2005.
ETA: super shocked you UK fans didn't say Hill

You act as if Grant Hill is the clear cut correct answer. There isn't one correct answer. Reasonable minds can differ on this topic.

I agree that some difference of opinion exists, but as you say McGrady his career was intertwined with Hill. The Rockets era T-Mac wouldn't exist if Hill had been healthy in Orlando. You are looking at two dominant wing players who be right there in the conversation as the best teammates of all-time. Hill was Triple Double threat every night and McGrady was an elite scorer while his body held up. Who knows if McGrady ever develops the back injury if he was (literally) carrying Orlando for 3 years.
Grant was as special as any player in his era (Shaq,Duncan,Kobe,KG,Nash) and superior to the high volume scorers (VC,AI,T-Mac). If Doc Rivers were coaching those two, the landscape of the NBA would have totally changed outside of Los Angles and San Antonio. It would have been those three teams.

Is there really a what if with Grant Hill? We know at his best he was the 3rd or 4th best player in the world.
The answer is Greg Oden. IMO he could of been the greatest defensive center EVER while putting up 18 points 13 rebounds.

Bias. The '87 team was a player short, and lost in the Finals. Maybe Bird hangs on another year, or takes his rehab slower and doesn't do some of the extended damage he did trying to push things in '88.
They reformulate around Bias, and Reggie Lewis, and maybe give themselves a fighting chance at not disappearing from the NBA map for a decade.
