Its just a minimum for food and drink. I figured anywhere from 75-100 a person would be reasonable. But, even at a $2500 min thats at $113 a head. Does that sound too high to everyone else? I'm comparing it to the $111 a head for about 110 people for the 3hr reception with a cocktail hour included, this is for food and drink as well at the bourbon orleans. Now take it the minimum there is much higher, but its also a reception/ceremony with the hall rented out.
Includes top shelf liquor, a raw bar (oysters, boiled shrimp etc), shrimp and grits bar and a carving station as the "expensive" parts of the food so to speak.

The site indicates that prices include tax and a 20% gratuity. On the site, it looks like they have minimums for 10 people and above depending on the room selection or, at least, that's how I read it.
Does that price also include the $8 per person validated parking? You said y'all were walking, so I assume it doesn't.
Do you only have one hour of cocktails for the reception? If so, that could make a difference right there.
I think I'd call them and find out what you can do to work it down a bit if that's what you want. You're pretty close to your high in your "reasonable" range. Technically, you could make a reservation downstairs for 22 people, order the table d'hote menu at $37.95 per person, plus liquor, tax and gratiuty and be somewhat under, probably. I'd bet they put a party that large away from the crowd or in the bar area, perhaps. You could call to find out about a reservation for that size and where they would put you etc... and just see what you get.

Here's a novel idea... Call them and actually speak with someone
As far as the price, it could be the time of year. The rooms prob hold a lot more than your party. If they accept less from you in order to accommodate your party, they are potentially losing money because the place isn't maxed out. Therefore they charge you the same amount.
