With clowney and taylor I'm sure licking their chops when watching our o-line pass protect on film, we need to figure out how to neutralize those guys to a degree. I know they'll make some plays, especially clowney, because they are that good. I think we have to get our running game going and be physical with those two DE's making them have to stop the run and not just pin their ears back to rush the qb. Like Mike Tyson said, "everybody has a plan until you punch them in the mouth."

We had better learn to use misdirection very quickly, and I'm not talking about a stupid reverse.

OK, but promise us you won't bitch about the lack of vertical attack afterward.

I'm not sure if our o-line can hold these 2 off long enough to attempt very many vertical throws honestly. That's why I think we need to be physical with them and make them stop the run

And you realize the Gamecocks have the #9 rushing defense in the nation? They totally shut down UGA (#19 rushing offense) and "Gurshall" last weekend. The duo that had been averaging close to 200 yds a game (14 TD's) only managed 76 yds and no TD's vs USC.
Everyone know's about Clowney and Taylor, but overlook the 4 Sr linebackers (run stoppers) on the gamecocks roster....

Good for them, but you do realize there's a big difference in playing defense at home and on the road? Right now, if I had to choose one to trust more and help us win, it's our running game

Should also realize that, like Florida and every other SEC team, they're going to stack the box and force us into a passing situation.

The O-line- couldn't run block worth a damn vs. florida, you think they will be any more effective vs. SC?

We can't beat SC passing the ball 25+ times. If we do and we win, then I'll admit I was wrong. I just don't see it happening. Clowney is that good and can change the game with his pass rushing instantly

SC's defensive "weak link" is their back 4. The question is can the line give him enough time to pass.

To slow down a pass rush, you have to utilize screens and draws. Not bubble screens, but WR screens as well as HB screens like Hill caught at Fla. People are giving the Oline a hard time, I don't care how good your o line is, if you are in the top tier in SEC defensively and you out number the offense in the box, you are going to make that oline look bad, very bad. If you are going to run the ball, you have to do it in multiple receiver sets, esp to one side. There is no one that will try to cover our WR without help over the top ( safeties ). So with that help over the top, the defense is forced to remove a defender from the box. Keep an eye out for this, esp if u watch the game from home. Draw imaginary line down the centers butt through the defense. Anybody such as center, NG count as a half, everybody else to either side of line is 1. Then break it down off vs def. If LSU has 2 1/2 on one and USC has 2 1/2 on one side, that is considered a hat on a hat and the offense will take that and should run to that side. Same numbers and LSU has FB in game, they should absolutely run that way bc the FB gives them a "hat" advantage. Hope that helps. Most of you probably know this but for the ones that don't, hope it makes sense.

Makes perfect sense and you are dead on about screens and formations to spread the defense out to assist the running game
