I'll add to the Jack White vote. Some recognition due for Reznor and Josh Homme too

Great movie and just reinforced my obsession with Jack's music.

Lil Wayne is probably the answer.
Le fuque?
he's been the biggest musician in the world for about 4 years, hands down. it's the unfortunate truth.

Joe Bonamassa. Listen to his live album from the Royal Albert Hall. He can play the blues as good as anyone.

and when I say "our generation" I mean musicians who range from the early to mid 20s to thier early to mid 30s.
That is silly to define this in terms of the age of the artist. You can define the generation in terms of this age range, but then it still comes back to which artist is the most important to that generation, not whether they fall within that age range.
Anyway, my answer is David Guetta. The reason is that history will look back on this generation as the generation where electronic music infiltrated all other types of music. And electronic music is the genre where the most rapid and significant developments have been made.
And although I don't consider David Guetta to be the best EDM artist out there -- I prolly wouldn't even put him top ten -- you can't deny the influence that he has in producing music in other genres (mainly pop music and hip hop) that injects EDM into the mainstream.
For that reason, he gets my vote.

I really dislike The White Stripes.

I want to know who is the most important artist to come out of this generation. Not the most important to this generation.

Okay, well Guetta is 44, so I have to retract my vote for him.

Jack White and Kanye West.

I remember when people were saying this in 1995. And EDM is still more of a niche genre, 15 years later.

umm which one is "our" generation?
Posted on 10/1/12 at 10:38 am to Baloo
I cant really think of someone that I can say, without a doubt, is the most important...
I like a lot of the artists mentioned in this thread, but dont think the musical landscape would have been changed that much, if at all, if they didnt exist...
It's probably someone in a genre I dont even listen to or a major pop star...
