Shapley's Jackson, MS Review

I had a nice dinner at Shapley's last night so figured I would do a quick review.
First, I am a big fan and it is often a toss up when choosing between Ruth's and Shapley's. The atmosphere is why I give Shapley's a slight nod. The tables are tucked away a little, it's dim, and nice cozy feel. It was a little loud for my liking, however.
Drinks: We first ordered a 2008 bottle of Cakebread, Cabernet. This could be my absolute favorite wine of all time. It is crisp, yet extremely smooth. I don't recall the price at the restaurant but is typically in the $90-120 range. A+
We then ordered a bottle of Chateauneuf Du Pape. We ordered this bottle on the recommendation of our server, and for $136 it was a bit underwhelming. It was good but Cakebread takes the cake IMO.
Salads - great size and their pepper ranch is great. Not much too work with though; one piece of tomato, no cheese or croutons, no carrots, etc. It was essentially lettuce and ranch. Could have been better.
I ordered the 18-20 ounce strip and it was out of this world. It melted in my mouth, and could have easily been split between two people. They do an au jus and butter sauce that was outstanding. It is certainly different than the butter plate you get at Ruth's. The plate is not has hot, however, but the steak was cooked to a perfect rare plus.
The 10oz filet that was ordered was as expected, great. Cooked to perfection.
Sides: We ordered french fries (I know), but they are hand cut amazingness. I didn't eat many as my steak was rather large. We also ordered snap peas and carrots and they were okay.
Dessert: Split a slice of lemon ice box pie. It was great.
Overall A+. I think I will give Shapley's the nod over Ruth's.
Oh, AND THANKS REPLACEMENTS REFS FOR A GREAT MEAL!

In the interest of not sounding like a drunk, the first bottle of wine was shared between 4 people. Only 2 of us ate though.

Good steaks but I've had better at the Chris' in Ridgeland and sometimes Tico's when it's "on."

I love shapley's but I've been eating more at Ruth's and local 463 lately. Glad to hear you had a great meal. It's a great one for sure. We are extremely spoiled here when it comes to great restaurants.

Shapley's is on point. Their escargot is next level. I agree that Shapley's is better than Ruth's Chris, but you definitely pay for the difference.

I have had the tamales in the past and wasn't a big fan. They were seasoned well, but overly mushy. I just didn't like the consistency, but I am not a tamale fan.
Nick's new brunch menu is good. Their bloody mary bar is nice as well.

Were you asking for Ridgeland recs about a week ago? I recommended Shapley's. Best steaks I've ever eaten.

Shapley's is definitely awesome steak, but I think Tico's maybe better...Parlor Market probably is my favorite in the general area.
Cakebread Cabs on a good day run $65+ retail, not restaruant- fantastic bottle for the price.
Recently I had a 15 yr old bottle of Chateau Du Pape, and I agree, it was rather underwhelming.

I've eaten at parlor market twice for lunch since moving to jackson in july. Really liked the meatloaf, comeback deviled eggs and potroast. Can't wait to try dinner. But I'm really obsessed with Steve's downtown for lunch. He made pumpkin & ham bisque the other day, which sounded terrible but he let me have a sample and it was crazy tasty. He comes up with lots of interesting lunch ideas.
