Does anyone know for sure if you purchase a home from a sheriff auction in Louisiana,if you get the deed to the home free and clear or are you responsible for any outstanding liens, backpayments, etc?

Fairly sure a Sheriffs' sale in LA clears the title. If other parties have a lien/mortgage on property, they will be there bidding to protect their interest.

This is generally correct. However, property taxes will survive a sheriff's sale. In addition, without me re-researching it, I want to say there are other very limited exceptions.

This rmc guy knows what he's talking about.
Suggestion: Way prior to bidding on a foreclosure, go talk with the sheriff's office civil department. There are stories of buyers being on the hook for $30k in condo fees out there... buyer beware.

IRS tax liens trump everything

Can you get title insurance when you bid on a foreclosure? I've always kind of wondered how this works.
