This isn't definitive proof, but it makes it seem like all those men died that day. Maybe its just he hasn't seen Howland since that day, but the wording makes me think otherwise.
Come on people, Jojen and Meera are multiple years younger than Robb and Jon in the books. It is physically impossible for Howland Reed to have died at the Tower of Joy and still be Jojen and Meera's father.

I woke up this morning hoping the FBI would turn him over to the Bolton's for some good old fashioned flaying.
A flayed man holds no secrets.

well, their blades are sharp
Yep, I would hire Ramsey Bolton as head of Guantanamo and I'd ship this kid there tomorrow.

I don't see why this is so hard to grasp either.

I don't remember what I've mentioned in this thread vs other places, but has anyone heard the theory that Howland Reed is Jojen? Bits and pieces I've garnered here and there state since the TOJ, (supposedly where his destiny was revealed ) Howland began flowing thru time backwards, knowing his ultimate goal was to deliver the next Greenseer to BR and tCotF? Howland was forced to make some sacrifice to save Ned (and Bran by default) using time travel/ magic, causing this reverse flow...
This theory assumes ALOT, one of the major points being Cranogmen are close relatives of tCotF (short in stature, use magic, etc). Another is that Greywater Watch, always moving, but moving back and forth thru time...hence it is hard to find.
I have issues with this, mainly that it redirects the TOJ to be more about Bran than R+L=J. While it does help explain Jojen's sense of impending doom throughout the journey north and Jojen paste, it assumes a lot that doesn't ring very Martin-esque. Maybe it is a nod to the book "Howl's Moving Castle" (1986) but beyond Howl being a wizard and the castle opens portals, I don't see the relevance...I didn't read the book, though. Just plot summary in link.

So Greywater Watch is the island on Lost. I'd sure hope not.

So Greywater Watch soldiers have access to machine guns and ballistic missiles?

I'm so proud to admit I've never wasted one solitary second watching network tv fodder like Lost. I just don't understand people that LIVE for all intents and purpose, week

Greywater Watch
About Greywater Watch, is it a man-made floating island? Like waterworld? Or Houseboats strung together?
Or are they on an actual island, that floats around in a swamp?

I've wondered the same thing. Whatever it is its going to be something the characters believe is magic but we, as readers, will know the logical explanation.
Kind of like how the iron born believe the drowned men are magically reviving others but we know they're just doing CPR

This is the first thing I thought also.

It's an actual island that floats around and moves, and no army has found it to conquer it. I find it strange, though, that Robb sent the two girls there to contact Howland. How do they know where it is?

I thinks it's a "the crannogmen find you" type of thing

I think the Reeds are my favorite house. Everything about them is awesome.

So basically Greywater Watch is the clitoris of Westeros. We know it's there, awesome, and magical and if found everything is gonna shake.
Got it

This is what I thought initially, but in a world with dragons and other magic an island that happens to float around isn't really a huge stretch.

Speaking of Dragons....where did I miss that there was a red and white egg hidden in the Wall?
Posted on 4/20/13 at 8:26 pm to lakeviewtiger
I don't remember anyone ever describing a red and white egg

I guess I missed that too.

The Cranogmen ARE related to the Cotf.
Greywater watch was created by CotF magic at the end of the time of heros when they created the Neck in an attempt to keep the Andals out of the north.
IMHO, FWIW, GFY!!!
CotF
The Cranogmen are most closely related to the CotF and the Starks are most closely related to the First Men. They remember the old alliance forged to fight the Others and will honor it again for the same purpose.

quote:
It is unknown for how long the children lived alone in Westeros, nor where they themselves came from. Eventually about 12,000 years ago, they came in contact with the First Men, the first outsiders. These invaders brought with them bronze, great leathern shields, and the first horses and their own gods. Burning the great Weirwoods as they came, leading to war between the two.
The two races fought a desperate war for dominance, the children used their magic to shatter the Arm of Dorne, the land-bridge through which the first men came, in a futile attempt to end the invasion and later flooded the Neck, legend has it that the children called upon their gods from the Children's Tower to send the hammer of the waters to smash the Neck, but it was not enough to stop the advance of the First Men. Eventually they fought one another to a standstill. The two races agreed to peaceful coexistence and signed the Pact on the Isle of Faces, granting the open lands to humanity and the forests to the Children.
