Reading reports on LA sportsman and read some kid caught a top ten Garfish in the state. So I google State records and seen the records for Flatheads. Apparently, a flathead I caught 4 years ago woul have placed 5th in the state at 42# I wish I would have known. Would have been cool to see my name in those records.

I've only caught one on rod/reel. I guess I need to try more often where we run lines. I guess a live punkinseed on the bottom would eventually get eaten.

What was the weight on the gar? We'caught some over 150 but that was 20 years ago.

I had a 12" goldfish in a water trough. Thought it was gone. Emptied the trough and there he was.
No record that I know of.

I was telling my dad and uncle about the state record Kentucky Spotted bass the other day. I think the state record was 4.8 pounds or something like that, and he said that he fileted one before that would have beat it.
My uncle also had one that weighed 4.48 afte being in an ice chest all day.

In the Calcesieu River. I've caught at least a dozen in the 3-3.5 pound range in my life and I don't know how many 2's.
There are some good sized Kentucky's in there. You can really catch em in late January/early February on jigs. They pile up in the mouth of sloughs, and if the river is fishable you can catch the big ones.
ETA: All of these have come out of the river between Glenmora and just south of Oakdale.
