Doug Glanville's experience at the Box...as written in the Advocate

Glanville wrote the following piece that appears in the Advocate today. Regardless of where you fall in the "should we be classy or not" debate, it is nice to hear an outsider's point of view.
The piece is well written...and as I suspected from hearing him on TV, he is a very intelligent guy.

But my trip to Baton Rouge allowed me to see firsthand that you can have a dominant program and have class, be welcoming, be humble and have fans who love good baseball so much that they can appreciate great performances — even if they have to stand up and applaud the team that broke their heart.

Still hurts, but I'm glad we showed class.

That is a great article and very well written. The article will already have two strikes against it from most rantards though. They complained about the commentators and they complained about our fans showing appreciation to SB.
I honestly do not give a shite what the motive was of the fans who stayed to congratulate Stony Brook. Even if they did it only to have articles like this written, it is nothing but a positive thing for LSU.

Well, of course we should be classy. Only a cretin would think otherwise. An article like this reflects more favorable light on LSU than a year's worth of Love Purple Live Gold ads.

Excellent article, showing the class of LSU's fans at Alex Box, the coaches, and players of both teams.

Team beat lsu to go to Omaha. But at least lsu fans have class.

doc, would you give a standing O for a guy you walked in on banging your wife? if not, you have no class.

I 100% agree they were the better team. I also think there is something wrong when Stony Brook ends up with exponentially better talent than LSU in baseball.
I was making a point. I think the victory lap was sort of a "hey look at me!" moment for LSU baseball fans but if that's what gets some people's rocks off that's fine. But I can guarantee when Vandy beat LSU in hoops a couple years back I didn't go and congratulate Jeff Taylor. And I semi-know the guy

Holy. fricking. shite.
Seriously?
Are we seriously comparing a baseball game to someone banging a cheating spouse?
You people are insane.

yes we are seriously comparing them. The use of hyperbole don't escape you does it.
Let me make it simpler. Did you give Alabama a standing ovation on 1/9 (assuming you aren't too broke to go to the game)?
Did you dap up Farmar and Afflalo after they thoroughly kicked our arse out of the Final 4?

Frankly, it appears the same posters on this board who have proven they have very little class are the same ones who now criticize other fans who DO have class. They have a difficult time understanding why fans would show appreciation for a good effort regardless of the uniform those players are wearing. Very interesting.....

you're such an absolute joke. I never criticized anyone for doing it. Said I wouldn't do it. I bet not a single person who high fived the Stony Brook players after the game tried to pound knuckles with Dre Kirkpatrick or AJ McCarron after the Alabama game though.

Oh, I got it.

I went to the game and I also congratulated them as well. It is a football game. It's not like I had to give one of them my first born or allow a male member of their fan base a night with my wife.
Did I regret it? Not at all, despite the fact that almost every single gump I said something nice to either told me to "frick off", put a middle finger in my face, or waved their little pom poms in my face. It was quite a learning experience.
I also love how some members of this board can read the minds of other fans as well.
I'm glad our fans did what they did this past weekend. Having graduated from LSU and worked there for nearly a decade, that was a good thing for the University. I know there are fans such as yourself who will never see it that way, and that's fine.

I didn't mean their fans. I mean Kirkpatrick, Lacy, Richardson... would you have gone and congratulated them after? I just can't imagine it. I've congratulated a fan after a game "good game" blah blah blah but I'll be damned if I'll high five their players right in the face of our own. But we don't need to get back into this whole thing since it has been rehashed 9 times already since the epic fail of last weekend.

Bingo.
Sports = Entertainment
I paid $30 to be entertained last weekend and I was. Game 1 was great for an LSU fan, but the ending of the show wasn't.
I don't understand the thought process that, if the ending didn't come out the way I wanted, I'm supposed to be an a-hole about it.
I personally didn't stay till the end, but I'm not upset if others decided to. Not my business and I certainly won't chastise other adults for doing something nice.

That is one of the nicest things that I've seen an outsider write about LSU. Great read, and kudos to LSU baseball fans.
