that's certainly a step up from D-II someone was predicting yesterday.
He has to sit out a year.

He got passed up on the depth chart by two younger guys. Can't really blame him.

I get him and Vinson leaving. I just don't understand David Jenkins leaving.

Where have I been? I had not idea so many guys were bailing out.

What two guys passed him up?

Why do players transfer to a small mid-major in DIA over going to a DIAA and playing right away? I would understand going to a big mid-major or another BCS program and waiting a year, but why would want to go to an Arkansas State over say Jacksonville State (closer to his home anyway).

Martin was already in front of him, but through spring Eugene was clearly better at safety as well.

Eugene was arguably the best football player in LA his senior year, this guy will do well when his time comes.

This exactly...I still don't get Jenkins leaving.

I'm glad he came here, but this is probably the best thing for him. We took him as a possible quarterback back up plan to Zach Lee. Well now we have Mett, Rivers, Liggins, Randal and hopefully Rettig.
I doubted he was ever going to start or play as a safety for LSU.
That being said, I wonder if Malzhan will use him as a quarterback up there for the read option? I think he'd be good in that role.
Did David Jenkins transfer? I heard a rumor, but that's crazy. He's going to get PT. That being said, we do have to remember that the secondary lost their positon coach. That doesn't help guys who are already not happy be any more happy.

quote:If a guy is transferring out due to playing time/depth chart issues, a future in pro football is probably not in the cards for him, so that may not be his #1 priority in picking a school to transfer to. ASU isn't exactly Harvard, but it's a better school than JSU.

Im not even talking NFL here, just the fact you have to sit out an entire season. In Sam Gibson's case it won't be a redshirt season, it will be a season he can play because he was already redshirted here and has 3 to play 3...so then it becomes an issue of playing only 2 years vs. 3 years. Not everyone plays CFB to go to the NFL, many play because it gets them through school and/or they love the game itself.
Academically I don't understand the argument about Arkansas State, they are not anything close to resembling a good academic institution.

A ton of Prattville kids go to Arkansas State including a couple of his best friends. That's the main reason he's transferring there. It's not like he was going to play for y'all. Unless he's changed a ton since high school, he's not the greatest character in the world either so it's not a big loss.

What's going on? Why are we losing players from the secondary positions and I sure this is not going to affect our depth.

Jenkins is confirmed gone.
Our depth has been greatly exaggerated. We really aren't that deep when you break it down especially at CB.
Mathieu- JR possible early NFL
Simon- JR possible early NFL
Collins-rFR
Raymond-true FR
Thomas-true FR and possible S
Mills-true FR
If we have an injury this year at CB, we're in trouble unless one of those true freshmen are more ready than expected.
S
Reid-JR possible early NFL
Loston-Jr can't stay healthy
Martin-soph
Eugene-rFR
Sandolph-true FR but raw
Thompson-true FR and stud
S is better but still beyond Reid and somewhat Loston, we're unproven.
If the Jrs leave early 2013 could be not so good in the defensive backfield.
