I like Manieri BUT he ignores baseball 101 time and time againg. There is nobody on this team that is not above bunting runners over in that situation. Katz and Rhymes included.

bunting your 3 and 4 hitters isn't baseball 101, its a debateable decision that different baseball experts differ on. To act like 1 choice over the other is cut and dry is retarded.

Baseball 101 is that you play the percentages in every situation. In this situation, you're in a tie ball game, 6th inning and your team has two hits so far. A bunt has a high percentage of advancing the runners, eliminating the double play. You are positioned to score the go ahead run on any ball hit out of the infield, on a slow grounder, on a high hop grounder. The infield has to play in, so a ball hit on the ground has a greater chance of getting through. You also score on wild pitch or any error.

Another factor is that it is not only a tie ball game, but tied at one run each and your pitcher is cruising. You don't need to play for a big inning. You need a run.

Skip Bertman was great because he ALWAYS played the percentages in every situation. Manieri is good, but he is not great because he doesn't have the discipline that Skip had. LSU deserves great.
