Starters: LF Alfonso Soriano, CF Marlon Byrd, RF David DeJesus.

Bench: Reed Johnson, any combination of Tony Campana/Dave Sappelt/Joe Mather. Blake DeWitt and Bryan LaHair can also play in the outfield. My guess is that Camapana makes the team as the fifth outfielder as he's a great defender with outstanding speed and can run the bases with an clue as well as steal bases.

I'm a bit mad that Brett Jackson won't start the year in the majors, and by that I mean I'm mad he isn't going to be the starting CF with Byrd moving to RF. But the future is bright for the outfield as Jackson will most probably get called up sooner rather than later if he keeps up the hitting. He's a very good defender as well. Jackson was recently sent to AAA.

Matt Szczur (pronounced "caesar") is another prospect the Cubs are excited about, although he may be a year away from making the big club. He was recently sent back to AA.

As early as the end of the year, though, if the Cubs can make some trades and be terrible enough to warrant it, we could be seeing an outfield of DeJesus, Szczur and Jackson. What a time to be alive.

Thoughts? The grass is getting greener and the temps are rising. It's almost time, kids.

I am doing everything I can to get MSB Cubs fans psyched about a 90 loss team, a lil help from my Reds fans? Nope...but, the Cubs will be helping the Reds to either a Wild Card or NL Central title, AGAIN.

I've always been a fan of Dejesus. Draws a lot of walks. He's a good defensive OF too. Campana's speed is exciting, but he doesn't seem to be anything more than a role player.

Is Soriano just washed up these days? The pop is still there, but that's about it, it seems.

Hope Byrd has a bounce back year. I like him, and his gameday bows to the Bleacher Bums.

LF Alfonso Soriano, CF Marlon Byrd,

Both of their swings are looking good this spring. Can't say that I have seen much of DeJesus(this spring).

My main want this year is to NOT be out of the race by mid May. Get me to at least to the All-Star break and I will be satisfied.

That it is, my favorite time of the year

Not that it means shite, but Soriano is crushing the ball this spring.

O/U .250 average and 20 home runs from Soriano (sp?) this year?

Will Cubs be sellers at deadline?
What could Garza/Dempster fetch?

I hope he starts out on fire and then Theo trades his arse.

Dan, Campana is just a reserve outfielder. He's not an everyday guy, but he's pretty useful off the bench.

DeJesus had his worst year OBP wise last year, but hopefully he can bounch back.

I don't really expect the Cubs to compete...but I am excited about seeing if they can trade some parts, like Dempster, Soriano and maybe even Byrd or Marmol, to see what they get in return. And I can't wait to see Brett Jackson and Anthony Rizzo make their debuts.

I agree with this except Marmol. He is fun to watch pitch.

Hopefully we will be able to move Demp, Sori & Byrd throughout the season

I would imagine once Byrd is moved, Jackson is called up to be the everyday CF and get him prepped for next season

There is no point to have him riding the bench in the bigs right now

But the thing to remember is he is useless on this team if they aren't going to compete. And some of the most overrated pitchers in baseball are closers. Teams will overpay for him, and if Jed Hoyer can make a trade when Marmol's value is peaking then they can get a pretty good prospect back.

Tell me a bit more about Jackson. I haven't been following spring training at all.

I think Byrd will be traded during the season while the Cubs eat some of his final contract. I doubt anyone is going to want that bum Soriano.

It's a long way back up.

at least yall got some salaries off the books, Soriano and Dempster are the only players with salaries over 7 milliom. Its a good start to rebuilding so yall can come up short again.

Jackson is the #1 Cubs prospect and #44 overall top prospect by Baseball America.

He hits wronghanded throws righthanded, has 20 HR potential and possesses B speed (on a scale of A to F...thinking like The Show video game here). He's a guy with good range in the outfield, probably going to start in CF to begin his career.

He was hitting really well this spring: .353 .450 .647 1.097 He's going to K a little bit, but he'll also draw a few walks.

I'm glad we are rebuilding too, hopefully we can duplicate the recent success of the Reds World Series winning ways
