I don't really understand this line of thinking that LSU's administration doesn't care about basketball.

They hired Trent Johnson. It was considered a very good hire at the time. He had taken two different teams to Sweet 16s. He is paid a very competitive salary. I'm sure there was not 100 percent agreement in hiring Johnson, but when is there 100 percent agreement on any hire? There wasn't with Saban or Miles.

It hasn't worked out. It happens. When Florida hired Zook, did anyone question their commitment to football? When Kentucky hired Gillespie did anyone question their commitment to basketball?

Bad hires happen. They have happened in basketball at North Carolina, Kentucky, Illinois, Arkansas, UCLA and many others with better hoops pedigrees than LSU.

LSU has just spent a lot of money on the new practice facility. I'm sure LSU's overall basketball budget could be increased, but can anyone really point to lack of funding as a reason for any losses we have experienced over the years? Budgets aside, I doubt Trent has ever been turned down for any legit expenditures.

So, why do you think LSU doesn't care about basketball?

People will question it a lot more if TJ isn't canned at the end of this season considering the underachieving. 3 years and no tourney simply isn't acceptable, especially when in 2 of the years we were literally bottom of the barrel in the conference (Brady's lack of recruiting at the end aside). It's time to cut ties and move on...the only reason TJ might get another year is simply because Alabama suspended all those players at just the right time and he finished 7-9 instead of 6-10 in the SEC. I even called 6-10 SEC prior and during the season and looks I was pretty spot on if Alabama had not suspended 4/5's of their starters at just the right time for us.

I think he does a good job teaching defense, we are very solid there...but it's pathetic watching us on the offensive end. We shouldn't struggle so much with so many experienced players and some pretty good ones at that. On top of that, his recruiting has just been lacking a bit...we can't be scaring off top player sin this states especially when it's a guy we DESPERATELY need going forward in Gathers.

Because people need an excuse to say that TJ has been around for too long... This season is the first legitimate time that people could be calling for his job.

Couldn't in year 1
Year 2=nope
Year 3=I could see people saying it, but it would have been a mistake
This year, sure

Basketball should be 2nd w/ baseball 3rd. Should be based on profitability.

We need to pay Shaq hundreds of thousands of dollars to become involved in our program and recruit studs to Baton Rouge.

It's a crime to waste the most charismatic and loyal big man in recent basketball history when he could do so much for our program.

If you really believe this, go check the budgets for the sports. Trent makes way more than Manieri, and Nikki either makes more or similar. Men's basketball makes way more money than baseball.

This is a typical LSU urban legend.

You are mostly talking about why you think Trent Johnson is not a good coach. That has nothing to do with LSU's commitment. Bad hire =/= lack of commitment.

I would imagine our paid attendance in baseball exceeds that of basketball, or at least is very close

Well yea, but that's also because baseball has won 6 titles in the last 20 years. How many has basketball won? And again, what does paid attendance have to do with a school's commitment to a sport?

LSU has bandwagon fans. The fact that it's even close when LSU basketball sucks should tell you something.

I'm also not talking about the fans' commitment, I'm talking about the administration.

The only way basketball makes more than baseball is because of merchandise sales. It definitely isn't at the gate or concessions.

Read the first sentence I posted. It's about the commitment to the program. People will question it if we don't fire him, and if we do fire him then people will believe we have a want to actually get better.

But people have been questioning it for years. This is not something new.

I was merely stating that basketball really doesn't deserve to be #2 because either way we're getting about the same fans in either sport. They may pay a lot more for coaches in basketball but that is just what the market requires compared to baseball. As far as what program GENERATES more revenue...pretty even I'd say.

I think people question the commitment because that state of being beats "we care about basketball and are trying to win but can't."

Most would rather believe that we aren't doing what is necessary to win instead of we are not capable of winning.
