No matter how you want to spin it, when a young, top positional player walks free from your organization without receiving any compensation back... it sets you back. Temporarily tagging him and allowing him to seek a trade is a win scenario for everyone.

Chad hit the nail on the head.

If we sign Drew before the start of free agency, we then can franchise Nicks with the exclusive tag. This allows other teams to negociate with him, if he signs Saints have right to match or not. If they choose not to the Saints receive their first round pick for the year and the first for the next.

Imagine what they could do with a first for this year and the following.

That is why there has been alot of talk about the offense over the defense.

Well except for the team that would have got him for no compensation.
