I have a squirrel problem. I mean a major one. They have eating both my lead and hard plastic flashing. They have chew their way through the wood siding. They have eat through both my asbestos and asphalt shingling. I can't control these bastards and they are costing me money.

I live in a neighborhood so squirrel hunting is out. I can trap and relocate I guess, but not sure that would do a lot to help and I don't have that meany traps. I could cut down my trees, but the neighborhood association would have fits if I cut down my three beautiful live oaks. (Not going to happen anyway) I could poison them, but I don't want them dying all over my attics. Both my neighbors have cats but all they do is sit around and look at the tree rats.

I have never had such a severe problem before. So, I am seeing if yall have had this problem and what did yall did. OR, do I just chalk this up to the cost of doing business in my neighborhood?

Man, I just live in a densely populated neighborhood. All our lots are less than a 1/4 acre.

I guess a pellet gun would put a dent population if I could find the time to hunt them.

Put some feed on the ground that you can see and shoot from the kitchen or living room. Hit them in the am before work with a pellet gun...

As has been said...pellet gun. You want to talk about fun? I have a house with a huge Oak in the back that has been vacant for a few months. I might go sit back there today and kill 30 of those bastards. Who wants them?

I don't have a squirrel problem, but that does sound fun.

First thing to do would trim branches away from your roof. If they have to jump 10ft to get to it, they will more than likely move on to someone else's house.

Second, fix the flashing and everywhere they are trying to get in.

Third, get some traps. They are like $10 for squirrel traps, and it is fun as hell messing with them when they are in there. They go absolutely ape shite. Maybe spray them with a bunch of water in the trap while they are on your property. They could associate your property with being tormented and not want to go there.

You can also get poison that dehydrates them and makes them go outside and drink water. When they do, they die because the water activates the poison.

Thats a great idea. So I presume they will die outside? What would happen if a neighborhood dog, cat or hawk eats the dead squirrel?

I can't keep up. These bastards are brutal. I fixed a hole in my wood siding. I also painted the wood white to match the house. As I was putting the ladder up the SOB was chewing it and since the paint wasn't dry yet he had a little white circle around his mouth.

By in large this is already done. They problem is that they are traveling down power/telephone/cable lines. They jump from my guest house/garage to the main house.

Love this idea! I am going to start water boarding those bastards.

How much does one that will put the smackdown on a good-sized squirel go for? Also, what are some good air rifle brands? I've never had one since my Red Rider BB gun.

As has already been said. Pellet gun.

I have an RWS that isn't much weaker than a .22lr

I have a 3-9x30 scope on it and could hit a squirrel in the eye at 30yds with a good rest.

That pissed me off so much. The little SOB was mocking me. I just grabbed a handful of rocks and slung it at him.

They are humorous little frickers.

He laughs at your futile actions.

Seriously get a Benjamin or Gamo and set up shop in the window with a pile of bird seed in the yard. Your torment will soon be over.

We have some that ate through the door of our screened porch and claw at the back door to the house when Mrs Cove is in the kitchen. They are like zombie squirrels trying to get to her. Then, we were eating dinner one night and heard a scratching at the window. Sure enough, there he was sitting on the sill with a look on his face like the dramatic chipmunk gif, just staring at her. Honestly, I'm feeling a little threatened by him at this point.
