Defensive line, secondary, OL.

Defensive line IMO is the biggest priority, followed by tight end. Linebackers are of the least priority given what we signed last year, and RBs are not a big priority given our depth, Jeremy Hill, and then Leonard Fournette next year. Everything in between that is pretty typical, IMO.
We'll need to usual 4 OL, 3-4 receivers, a QB. But most importantly we need to load up on defensive line and get two really quality tight ends.

Isn't really a need.
DL, QB, OL ...

In order of need:
1a. DT
1b. QB
2. DE
3. DB
4. OL
WR and RB seem to be pretty well stocked at least until 2014, but no reason not to take the right guy if he's out there and has a want to be a Tiger.

DE is the biggest need. Montgomery is a cinch to go pro, and Mingo is a better than 50% chance IMO as well. That leaves only 4 DEs on the roster considering that Edwards will graduate.

How many QB's do we need?

After mettenberger, the rest of the guys are projects

Only one on the roster who isn't being talked about to change positions besides Mett is Rivers. His measurables are unreal, but no one seems to think he'll ever be starter material, just a solid backup. I think Krag is going to hit the trail hard for a highly rated guy next year.

4-5 DL(maybe more)
2 S
1 C
3 OL
1-2 TE
1 QB
1 HB
1 MLB
1-2 Big Wr
Everything else would be complimentary, IMO.

We should also consider getting another long snapper just so Ferguson doesn't feel entitled

How many of the DBs signed this year project at S besides CT?

LSU might get a FB too considering Davenport is a Junior and you want a guy ready. But I think they're going to see what they have in that one walk-on.

Sandolph but he could be a academic casualty.
Dwayne Thomas also can play S and might move there if Sandolph doesn't make it.
Still, Reid has a good chance leaving early, Loston has proven nothing so far and is a concussion from being a medical hardship. Rest of the guys are young and completely unproven.

With the very real chance that TM, Simon, and Reid Leaving early, secondary is a huge need IMO.

DE and DT are the biggest needs by far imo. Also imperative we get at least a couple of sure fire players there. 4-5 is my thought as well but take as many as are good enough and willing to come.
QB is important because we really don't know what we've got. We need someone that is almost college ready not a project. Projects while talented are much more boom/bust.
DB is a big deal because the proven talent may leave early and put us behind schedule. I expect 5-6 dbs particularly because the state is flush with them.
WR is a need but not a huge one. We'll likely take more than expected or needed because again there are so many athletes in the state that some are going to play wr. My guess anywhere from 2-4 just because the state dictates it.
In my estimation those 4 areas compile somewhere between 12-16 spots in the class and with probably 4 OL guys that is almost the class. Still have LB where the target number is 1-2,RB which could go without a guy but 1 is likely, TE which we seem to want at least 2 and still may take a FB and a K. No clue how the numbers are going to work. Either some spots are not getting covered in the class, a ton of talented instate kids are going to be left out or there will be a ton of "processing" going on. Will be interesting to see how it works out.

Load up on DL and OL. At DE, we lose Edwards and Aghayere, most likely Sam and possibly Mingo. So, sign 3-4 DEs possibly. At DT, we lose Downs and possibly Logan, and we signed none in 2012. So maybe sign at least 2 or maybe 3 DTs.
On OL, we lose Josh D, Lonergan, Hurst and Branch and possibly, Faulk. Plus we only signed three in 2012. I'd say sign at least four, maybe five.
I think Simon, Reid and Honey Badger are all possibilities to leave early, so we might need 3-4 DBs, too, depending.

1. 3-4 DE (definitely losing 3 maybe 4 and lost Torishio)
2. 2-3 DT (vitale to our defense and none in 2012)
3. 2 TE (lose 2)
4. 1 legit pocket passing QB (don't believe that Randall and Liggins will stay there or be good enough)
5. 5 OL (will likely lose 4 starters and only signed 3 in 2012)
6. 2 S (Reid and Loston could both be gone for different reasons)
7. 2 big WR (only one SR in two deep but missing big boys)
8. 2 CB (may have minimum up heavel but like to keep deep for projects that don't work out)
9. 1 RB (3 JRs and would like to not have to sign many RBs in 2014 class to entice Fournette)
10. 1 MLB (insurance on Granier or any of our other 2012 LBs not producing a good MLB)
This leaves us with 2-4 schollies to play with for suprise studs, etc.
