A year ago after one game.. don't remember which one.. we had played a team with a good running QB. In his post game press conference, Miles made the statement "our defense has trouble with a running QB."

In his mind.. he saw the problems his defense had with a mobile qb which led him to lean toward Jefferson.

He said basically the same thing earlier this year. When Jefferson initially was kicked off team Miles was being asked who who play at QB. He mentioned Lee then Mett and then added "and we like Ole Randall.." talking about the freshman. He likes Randall cause Randall can run.

In Miles mind.. he's going w/a mobile qb just like I would prefer a Ford or a Chevy. And, that's good unless the mobile QB panics.. which JJ did in National Championship game.

I guarantee you most offensive coaches love qb's with a decent set of wheels to keep a play alive and run the inside/outside zones

mobile qbs aren't also the best at reading defenses if they spend too much time running around.

So of the 4 main QBs he's had, only one has been "mobile", yet he's in love with mobile QBs?

(Flynn wasn't a mobile QB in my opinion)

And most offensive coaches do not love QB's who cannot pass. Right?

I thought Flynn ran a 4.5 or 4.6, that's pretty mobile.

So what are you saying in this thread?

That Randall will be the QB next year?

And JJ always panics. Don't get me started on that kid.

some do, most do not. They usually play in a HS system with them in the shotgun with 4-5 speedy recievers spreading the defense, and they either toss the ball way down the field, or tuck in and run. This type of HS "mobile QB" is highly prevalent in South Louisiana and many southern HS's, and it is the worst kind to bring into the SEC. They almost never have the pocket presence nor do they have field vision.

To win the SEC, this kind of QB almost never gets the job done.

Cam Newton was a very very rare case, so leave him out of this discussion, as he could do it all and also had great leadership skills and freakish size.

Lol I think you need to watch Tim Tebow. Face it the two best qbs of the SEC in the past decade were mobile qbs-Cam and Tebow. Even Jamarcus ran some qb draws and was definitely mobile in the pocket.

ETA I see you edited before I posted but Im leaving it.

I agree. Given a choice between a QB with wheels and one without, the guy with wheels is an advantage.

Unfortunately, we didn't have a choice between a QB with wheels and one without. We had a choice between a QB and a guy who could sort of run.

Coaches like WRs who can block too but you don't see them lining up 285 pound guards out there. You still sort of need to be able to do the primary thing the position calls for.

Then your opinion is pretty shitty. Flynn have very good wheels but spent most of his SR year at LSU dinged so his running skills were mitigated.

How about a mobile QB that can actually throw? What's wrong with that? Maybe even for a whopping 100 yards in a game.

Flynns 2007 Rushing Stats:........ 100-215/4TD

Not bad imo.

His Virginia Tech TD run stands out to me. A truly forgotten play

Or standing in the pocket trying to read defenses as well.

In the last 3 years Bama has lost 4 games. The QBs were Stephen Garcia, Cam Newton, and Jordan Jefferson twice. Notice how many of these are drop back passers. I wonder why the coaching staff doesnt want a QB that cant move.

I hadn't thought about Flynn...the post was mainly about JJ/JL. Regarding Randall....I think he will play some. Based on this past season, I'm not confident Mett will start the whole year.

this cracks me up, noone ever says black or white, but people use mobile or high football IQ. Crazy how you can just read between the lines and see what people are talking about.

It's ok to have a mobile qb as long as he's a "pass first" qb.... I don't want an option qb, just a qb with enough speed to pick 5 yds when the pocket collapses
