ESPN propaganda is just that, propaganda. They'll do anything for ratings and pumping up the Gumps gets them a lot of that.
For frick's sake, you guys are silly sometimes. It has nothing to do with "ESPN progaganda" which, by the way, has become some sort of bogeyman in many of your minds.
Actually, conventional wisdom has been that it's tough to beat a very good team twice in a row in a single season. The research suggests that the "conventional wisdom" may not be correct in many cases.

It's tuff to beat CLM with a month to prepare.
It's tuff to beat LSU in the superdome.
It's tuff to beat the Tigers at night.
It's tuff reading this stuff until the game.
I wonder if the Gumps have considered that after they lose this game they'll no longer be considered one of "the two best teams" but we can lose and still be National Champions.

This is going to be great when it comes to how the media handles this game. Saban can't stand the media and Miles doesn't know how to talk to the media..

It is true.
...not as much with bad teams or when there is a big discrepancy in talent or ability
But when both teams are solid and close to each other,it places the first winner at a disadvantage.
why:
a great team may have limited number of weaknesses, so at the first game, they are exposed...by the second game, they are gone or limited.
while this is true of both teams, it affects (benefits) the losing team more.
the only way to win again is usually to be able to exploit a different weakness if one is found.

Have you checked close game rematches? If a team's got the other's number I doubt the loser of the first wins the second. So, if in the first game the winning team wins by say 10pts or more then they probably win the 2nd game. But if its close suggesting that both teams are evenly matched then there might be some historical data to support it.
Btw, we were hoping in T-town on Nov5 that the trend of CNS never losing to the same coach twice in a row would hold up. It just goes to show you that some statistics are meaningless. It probably happened because Saban doesn't lose many games.

Interesting Statistics; thanks for posting. It strikes me that there are many factors involved that wouldn't show up in won-lost statistics. Injuries to key personnel probably being the most important. Coaches leaving before the rematch could make a difference as well.Given the temperament of this team and the stakes involved, LSU shouldn't worry.

nice work, send it to herbie and his buddies at ESPN.

Yep. LSU/Georgia in 2003 and Auburn/South Carolina in 2010. Close the first time and then the first game winner blew the doors off the other teacm the second time. Ouch.

yes it is,
it is obviously not 100%, but if the two teams are very close to each other in talent and ability the first winner is at a disadvantage.

the loser, learns of his weaknesses and plugs them up, while the winner is forced to try something new...if that does not work, they are SOL. If they find new weaknesses, then they may be OK, but when the twp teams are close to each other in ability it becomes much harder to do so.

Saban should be more concerned with the fact that his team has been less impressive in their 3 wins (average margin of victory - 23 points in last 3 games vs. 32.5 in their first 8 )since November 5th while LSU has arguably been better (average margin of victory - 37 points vs. 27.75 in their first 8 games) and against 2 highly ranked teams.
Although, I'm guessing Saban is mostly concerned with how Miles teams are so dominant in bowl games.

40-39 OT, 32-13 UA over UF, '99 I think.

Championship Game rematches
1996 Florida vs FSU....Florida lost on the road but won in the championship game
Three starters on our O line were out in first game and Danny had no time. When we got them back...
So don't put too much into that one.

LSU wins BCS 9Jan.2012 and Nov. 2012 against ala., maybe saban leaves ala., very possible, he has 0 loyalty; basically a mercenary!

stats can be used to justify anything and have little to do with this game.
i.e. UL-L just beat San Diego State, they had those kind of stats.

and you think that would be the reason for Saban to leave Bama ?
Saban will leave when the opportunity is better and/or more lucrative. nothing to do with the win or loss in the NC game.

"Tough to beat a team twice"
Well, as 13 teams have found out this season, it's tough to beat LSU ONCE.
Posted on 12/21/11 at 8:52 am to TigerPanzer
Of course its tougher to beat a team twice. How much tougher, depends on the team. Its common sense. Its a 50/50 chance to flip a coin and land on heads once. Its a 1 in 4 chance to flip a coin and have it land on heads two times in a row.
