This game between LSU & Ala. has brought back memories of ushering in T.S. when I was a Boy Scout. I think it was the 77-78 season we played Ala. at home, and it was a day game. A few hours before the game, and while the stadium was empty, someone had all the troops present to assemble on the bleachers down close to the field and both coaches gave a short "pep/appreciation talk" to us. I don't remember much about it as I was probably thinking other things like "I wish we were camping" , but in time these trips to the stadium, as a young kid, made me a die hard LSU Tiger fan. I'm excited about the game and regardless of the outcome we still have a tradition, a style, and a Love for the program that's not equaled by many others in College Football. Go Tigers !!!

I ushered in TS as a Boy Scout a few times in the mid-1950s. It was always a thrill.

I ushered in section 2 lower south endzone from '66 to '68. We were the section that always had the visitors.
I remember an ole miss game were the OM cheerleaders handed out hundreds of rebel flags during the second quarter. We were sitting on the first row and one of the scouts got one. He reached into his pocket for his lighter (no he didn't smoke, he was just prepared in case we needed to start a campfire). Anyway, he set the rebel flag on fire. Some drunk rebel fan (I guess that's redundant) came down the aisle and opened two big cans of cheap beer and poured them on the scout. The scoutmaster who was coming down the aisle behind him to tell the kid to put it out asked the drunk why he did that. The drunk turned around and punched the scoutmaster in the face. A dozen state troopers appeared from no where, drug the drunk ole miss fan over the concrete wall and bushes onto the field, and off to a patrol car for a trip to parish lock up. We watched the rest of the game from a friendlier section.

Yes it was! Early sixties for me, though.

I was doing the same 76-78. Saw many a game that way. One time we wound up near Mike 's cage and one of our scouts thought it would be funny to knock on the cage to get the tigers attention. Got ignored at first and then Mike turned and roared. We all about jumped out of our skin. People were laughing their butt off at us.

I still have those football-shaped passes - those were the days - getting in to LSU games for free and great seats, too.

Did it only once, in the 60s. My uncle was the den master. We didn't do much ushering, but enjoyed watching the game on the East Side.

I ushered the 14-14 game against Bama in 1985. Can scouts still get in?

I was with a group helping the EMS team in high school. For one of the games I was watching the game on the steps and a guy paid me $5 to go get him some napkins.

I remember taking a cold coke out of the ice box early in the morning and wrapping it in news paper and then foil to try and keep it cold in the brown paper bag that held my sandwich. There was no such thing as the small coolers like we have today....or at least I don't remember them.

My troop 61 of the Istrouma council did it many occasions. One etched in my young memory is the foggy FSU game with fans throwing oranges toward the field. There were some really cold games too. We only had to usher the first half. After the fans were back in their seats following halftime, we usually took off playing in the stadium doing boy stuff.

Wow--Troop 256 from BR in the early 70s. Saw 28-8 beat down of Notre Dame and 17-16 Ole Miss games (in the middle of the visitors side), among others. Those uniforms gave us access to most of TS--we would go to the visitor sidelines during the games and get their cheerleaders to autograph our caps. (Never could get thru security on the Home side to ask Tiger cheerleaders)
I put some drunks in the South endzone in the wrong seats once--what can I say, I was 11--and a huge fight broke out a few minutes later when the real ticket holders showed up. We got out of there fast, when the drunks started pointing at us Boy Scouts.

Lol, I used to think they sold beer in the stadium 'cause everybody had it out in the open. What's the world coming to when you can't drink in Tiger Stadium ? :)

Yup, I did it in the 90's.

Wow, I had pretty much forgotten about this. I did it a couple years in the late 80s. Thinking about it now, I do remember bringing binoculars....but they weren't for watching the game.
