It could happen. They don't have to share with SEC.

I hope we can just get an SEC Network and avoid that situation. I would be surprised that they would get 100 Million more than Texas though.

Come on dude, you smoke?

Don't think ESPN will be offering any individual school that kind of money for tier 3 after the mess with LHN.

My reaction, "Nice April Fools, a-hole."

SEC wouldn't allow it to happen.

The OP has zero clue as to how cable channels make money. They may be Ala-frickin-bama, but the popoulation of that state is small, and they wouldn't get top dollar expanded basic subscription rates outside of Alabama. Texas was a one of a kind deal, and after the beating ESPN is going to take, it will probably be none of a kind within a short time period (I'm guessing within six years).

Alabama is not Texas. Won't happen.

very proud bama fan but we are not texas or norte dame. I doubt we would sign any deal with espn, that is anything like the LHN. Bama has deal now that is around 8 mil a year so we are doing alright. The truth be known I doubt bama would go for a espn deal, we helped build the SEC, I doubt we want to destroy it. Like I said we are not Texas or ND. JMO

Bama doesn't have the appeal of Texas.

Won't happen for many reasons already posted, but also part of the SEC tv deal as is includes broadcast of sports that would typically be third tier - volleyball, softball, gymnastics, swimming/diving. Every Friday night for the past 6 weeks ESPNU has had an SEC volleyball game on. So unless they wanted to televise just OOC things, a third tier rights network wouldn't be feasible with the current contract.

Apparently Texas doesn't have the appeal of Texas either. I don't see any Tier 3 deals near that amount in the future.

No it couldnt. Go look at the providers who have picked up the LHN (a school with a larger alumni base better overall sports and fans in larger media markets) and then get back to me.

I don't think Bama is going to screw up what they already have. If they do, they risk alienating themselves as much as Texas has.
The SEC is as good as it gets for college football and Bama knows that, they would not risk losing significant rivalries and games that go back a long time. As much as they hate Tenn, Auburn, etc. they know they need them as much as any other opponent.
Otherwise they become an independent like Notre Dame, but with the way conferences are trending Notre Dame will need a conference for football in order to stay relevant

Replying before I read the thread, so this has probably been stated, but to the OP:
Yeah, because Bama has such a large population to devote an entire channel to for that type of money.

UA is a relatively small school from a small state. I think the 8-9 million per year they get now is about the most they'll ever see. Which is plenty if you ask me, considering all the other money they get.

I would be pissed. Even if the LHN debacle hadn't occurred, i would hope that Slive would be smart enough to realize that even though there wasn't a rule in place to stop it that it shouldn't happen. The SEC's success has come from what the conference as a whole means to college football, not 1 team. The conference needs a TV deal, not a single team. Give 1 team a deal and that school will grow stronger, but at the expense of alienating/weakening another school, thus weakening the conference as a whole.
