So How Bad Did the LHN Hurt Texas?

They lost A&M and Missouri from their conference and were basically forced to invite TCU in, which will definitely cut into their recruiting in the Dallas area.
The $$$ is great but it seems to be having more negative effects long term.

Hmmm UTx or TCU?

You laugh but I am sure the lure of playing in a big conference got some of these guys to Texas. TCU won't take all of the guys UT wants obviously, but they will get guys they may not normally get, who want to stay close to home.

The loss of A&M will hurt more with players wanting to stay close to home and play in the SEC, imo.
As long as the LHN is in place UTx will get paid so they don't care.

Leper ... pariah ... anything else repulsive that you can think of. Not only Texas, but this is going to bite ESPN on its arse.

I can't believe ESPN ponied up all that money for this. The guy that made that decision should be fired. How could they think that this would be a good idea?

It's going to be bad for them in the long run. They don't see it now because they are blinded by all the $$.
In a few years they will have some of their recruiting hurt (like you said TCU will take some of the players UT was after, which will affect UT's depth). Also TAMU will steal a few of the upper tier recruits for the SEC draw.
And in the future other conferences will be weary of working with UT knowing they'll sell anyone out in a heartbeat to get theirs.

UT's recruiting won't be hurt in any of this. TCU is 6th in following in the metroplex behind UTx, A&M, OU, LSU and Arky. SMU is about equal with TCU.

I'm curious as to why people believe this to be true. They have had a top 5 recruiting class for years now, I don't see that changing. Even if they lose some mid tier recruits to TCU, it's not going to have a significant impact.

I don't buy this. A&M will have to have success in the SEC to improve their recruiting.

UTx will always hand pick instate talent.

So How Bad Did the LHN Hurt Texas?
1. The LHN has made Texas' competitors in the Big 12 more rich...before the LHN fiasco, 1st and 2nd tier TV money was not equally shared. Texas, and the schools shown most on TV, got a greater share of it. Now all the schools are sharing in it equally.
2. Another Texas school was added to the Big 12. TCU is now a little more relevant in the eyes of recruits...
3. The SEC is now in Texas...who knows how that will help Texas A&M or other SEC schools, but it probably wasn't the preferred scenario for UT. SEC is favored to win its 6th straight BCS title...that fact is not lost on recruits.

Well said. The LHN could prove to be as big a misstep for TU as the Big East saying no to Penn State joining the conference was many years ago.

These are all very good points that I'm sure will be ignored by Texas fans.
One more thing to consider is the shellacking UT's reputation has taken and how it may be viewed by other conferences in the future after the inevitable collapse of the Big 12.

This is the biggie.
The Pac Twelve had enough of their shite in the past two years that I'd say the chances of going there are dead for at least 5-10 years, if not longer.
Most other conferences would be wary about them just because of the way that the "Texas insists on running the show!" complaints of the Nebraskas and A&Ms have been shown to have merit.
If the Big 12 goes tits-up, they're going to be an independent in football whether they want to or not just because they're inevitably going to screw everyone else.

The Longhorn Network isn't doing as well as they thought it would either.
It's a big problem because a lot of the bars in Texas don't carry it.

To the Longhorns, political power is more important than anything, the money just happens to be a nice little pot sweetener. They only care about themselves.

Doesnt' matter. UT will always have big money.

About as much as Texas Tech IMO. TCU will be playing a harder schedule but TCU is like adding a school some where in between Texas Tech and Baylor.

This. It opens more doors for the SEC to come to Texas. However, can A&M keep the upper tier recruits interested in the SEC rather than letting some of them go to a LSU now? Would Shepard, Toliver, Loston, and those type stay in-state now? I wouldn't underestimate Texas pride.

Loston had the same problem Michael Bishop did. He couldn't pass the TAKS, so he went to another state to graduate.

Apparently
There was at least one coach caught rigging a retake of the math portion so that his players would pass it.
