Stopping Alabama's run-game

How are we going to game plan for this?
In base 4-3 we're a little light in the middle with Brockers at 6'6, 306 and Logan at 6'3, 287. Also, this typically means we have Francois and/or Hatcher on the field who basically do nothing. Replace Hatcher with Minter which is an upgrade in talent and size but replacing Francois with Jones might be a talent upgrade but we lose a ton of size as Jones is built like a safety at 6'2, 205.
Could the coaches perhaps experiment playing to our strengths to stop Bama's power run game with putting a 5-2 type of scheme out there with a big boy in the middle, Anthony Johnson at 6'3, 310 for instance, Brockers and Logan flanking him while we have our typical ends out there in Adams and Montgomery? The 2 LBs could be our biggest and best in Minter and Baker as well. I honestly feel like the coaches would have something with a lineup like that.
Bottom line though is we know our DBs can easily hang with and contain their receivers and the passing game. We need to absolutely commit to stopping the run and I'm not so sure we'll be able to do this with our base 4-3 setup or Nickel with Mathieu out there.

So you are suggesting taking TM7 off the field?

I've said since before the season started that we would need to look in the mirror and face up to the fact that we have a 4-2-5 defense this year.
Now things are always fluid, and if Chavis can get his LBs to play a 4-3 scheme that works against Bama, then more power to him.
Right now, however, the LBs look absolutely clueless in figuring out where they need to be on power running plays up the middle.
It's not a matter of execution and making tackles.
It's not a matter of "being physical."
Our LBs simply cannot read running plays.
Thus, I really think our best strategy would be to do a lot of run blitzing from the rover position in a 4-2-5, and just tell the 2 backers to man up and stuff those A and B gaps.

we have the necessary players to make our front 7 get big if we need to.

LSU will not be able to stop UA running game. Alabama is sound up front, LSU will have to force 3rd and Longs so the D-line can be a factor. UA will do the majority of their passing on 1st and 2nd downs where they can use the playaction. UA will stop LSU's run and make the 1 dimensional, and LSU doesn't have the passing game to consistly beat UA through the air. UA 28- LSU 7

Stack the box like the weak defenses have done against us.

So LSU can't stop Bama's run, but Bama will stop LSU's run?
Oh, I forget, Bama is the greatest team to ever grace a football field.

Reserved for November 6.
Here is the thing. LSU has the athletes to man up on the outside and deal with your weak passing attack. Your WRs aren't going to go off on our CBs if we man up and your TEs can't beat our safeties.

what makes you believe this? whenever the tigers need to pass the ball they have done it successfully. Just because LSU doesn't pass the ball a lot doesn't mean we can't

You're not going to see a 5 dline front... maybe on the goaline package, but that's about it.
For the most part, our DT's have done a good job of closing down the gaps and forcing the Rb's to bounce.
We'll probably use the same system that was effective against Bama last year. Crowd the line with an extra man and force Bama to throw. It was very effective this year against MissSt.
They haven't really faced a stiff run defense yet this year, and with our depth, they won't have the typical benefit of wearing down our linemen in the 2nd half. They'll have to earn every yard.

I think you could see some 50 alignments with Mingo playing where a backer usually would
But I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn express

Bama will stop LSU's run. How does LSU expect to stop Richardson?

See 2010. LSU 'stopped' Ingram enough to win the game.

Sure. Or you could do run blitzes to his side with Mathieu or somebody, where they both come at the same time.
