Why?? Things are great now... IF JL gets on the skids, I think there would not be hesitation to put Mett in the game, but...... barring a repeat of JL freshman year, I dont see Mett entirely taking over..... IMO
Most Mett supporters are ok with this, the hope is that it is not too late if it happens. I.E. Down two touchdowns in the 4th quarter at Alabama with the SEC championship on the line.. Hey, things could be a lot worse that what they are right now. I'm very content so far with how the season is unfolding.

Curious.. who thinks Mett overtakes Lee
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
before the end of the year ?
I'd say "Let's watch the Tigers play a few games" before we ask that question, but it's been asked daily for months.

On ESPN's "The Experts" yesterday, one of the guys said it's nice to see LSU have an offensive identity this season, as opposed to the mish-mash that was the last couple of years.
Yes, it's early in the season, but we at least seem to know what we're doing and what we wanna do. So far, it's working.
Mett will get his shot, but there is no way he's ready just yet. This ain't the PAC-12.

And that's different how from the last 18 mons of "qb post that sucks"?
We haven't had a QB be accepted since we had one lifting the crystal ball over his head in 2007.

I think Mett will start by the middle of the year.

Do you have some reason for 'thinking' this? What has Mett done that Lee has not? What were their stats in the NWSU game? Who had the better ones? Which QB led the team to more points?
I'm not saying Mett isn't a good talent. It's just ludicrous to think that because he played one half of one game against an inferior sub-SEC opponent that you can say he needs to start over a guy in his 5th year who has shown steady improvement and has decent numbers this season.

Well stats certainly aren't the only consideration, or Lee would've been benched after the Oregon game. Both looked good against NWST, but Mett looked better.
He looks far more comfortable in the pocket, has better footwork, a stronger arm, and better mechanics. The only reason he's not starting now is b/c he's had the playbook for less than a year as opposed to a veteran in Lee.
This isn't a knock on Lee, but anyone who watched both of them can't possibly say Lee looks like a better qb. He simply knows the offense better, which Miles hinted at being the reason he was starting. Once Mett gets a bit more comfortable with the offense, I think we'll see him starting, and I see that happening within the next month or so.

lifting over his head is the key there. i remember the rant exploding for les to give the reins over to RP earlier in the season.

Clearly, because if they were, our named starter this offseason would have never been the starter.
His mechanics were more sound. I will agree with that.
I don't see Mett starting in the next month or so, regardless of what Lee looks like, if we are still winning games. Les doesn't care what it looks like, just as long as it equals Ws.

Not so....
it is not just about knowing the offense, but about reading the defense.
Mett can overcome Northwestern, but he is not yet ready for the variations in D that AL, FL, etc., will throw at him. You can not substitute for experience.

the kid's played in one half of an actual football game, with a 3 td lead. and didnt even have as good a game (statistically) as the guy infront of him on the depth chart.
look, the kid's a great talent. but this isn't his year.

Well that identity is running the ball,
We have 7 more rush attempts after 2 games this season than we had in 2010 and a 100 less yards gained than what we had in 2010 after 2 games.

Let Lee finish out the season no matter what, he has earned it.

quote:Has Lee shown you an exceptional ability to read defenses? I haven't seen it. Look, I'm not saying Mett should start tomorrown night or anything. The job is Lee's, as it should be. But I wouldn't be surprised if Les mixes in Mett a little bit to show them some different looks and to see how he looks against an SEC defense. I think Les will continue to do that for the next few games as well. And at some point, if and when Mett shows he's ready in a month or so, he'll start.

I think Lee should be yanked now. His 9 of 10 completions vs. NSU is unacceptable. There is no reason he should ever throw an incomplete pass. Mettenberger should complete them all, never throw in int., never get sacked, lead every receiver or throw it where only the receiver could catch it.
In sum -
Lee - first mistake "Damn, here we go again."
Mettenberger - first four mistakes "That's okay, he's young, he still looks great."

I hope Mett doesn't overtake Lee because that will mean Jarrett has played well enough to win all our games.
The big if is what happens if Lee stinks it up in a agame and we lose. Les clearly likes what he saw from ZM last week and if he keeps competing in practice, it could become a real possibility.
