What exactly happen between you guys and Texas and were you guys excited about joining the SEC at the time or kind of one of those "Well we have no where else to go?" type of attitude?

We started the this entire super conference talk 20 years ago. Frank Broyles (Our AD and legendary coach) mentioned to the SEC heads, on the golf course, if they ever wanted to expand Arkansas would join. This would be 1988'ish.
While pro sports were eating up the smaller schools fan bases of the SWC.. (SMU - Dallas Cowboys, Mavs) (Houston -Oilers Astros) (TCU - Cowboys - Rangers - Mavs) etc...
Frank was brilliant and initiated the move and the rest is what you are seeing today 20 years later.

There was no internet.
The first announcment most fans heard about it was in the news when the SEC announced it was going to expand and Arkansas "might be" one of the teams.
I think most fans were excited about the possibilities.
When it was first announced, it was going to be up to 4 teams joining the SEC. At first, I don't think most thought it would be us and South Carolina.
Most fans probably thought it would be us, and Texas and A&M. The Texas schools not joining was a bit of a surprise.
I think the average fan didn't "see it coming" but when it was announced, most felt like it was the right move.
It played out over a few months from the time of the first announcement of it as a possibility until it was officially announced we were joining. I don't think most fans realized exactly how doomed the SWC was at the time. And none of the Texas school fans realized it.
It was a different era and a different deal altogether than what is happening now.
