I think Marino's legacy is definitely hurt by the fact he doesn't have one
Hardly
Marino was the greatest passer I've ever seen and unquestionably one of the top 10 QBs of all time
In fact can we have a board rule restricting the word "legacy" to NBA threads?

his his 1984 season is football's version of Babe Ruth's 1921 season

not nearly as much as malone or barkley.
you can be one of the greatest ever and not win a ring in football
you cannot say the same for basketball.

it might hurt marino, but he is still considered one of the best ever.
If Lebron never wins a championship, he'll still be considered one of the best ever, but it will be a HUGE black mark (just like Marino).
But it's weird in baseball. Nobody even thinks about Ted Williams or Bonds not winning one when judging their status. Perhaps an even better example, I was looking up some players I thought didn't win one to make sure they didn't win one before posting them and making myself look stupid (Ripken and Aaron)... didn't even realize those guys won championships.

Does only having 2 titles matter to Wilts legacy 50 years later? Yes

thats fine and all, but the only way lebron never wins a ring is if his career is ended in the near future due to injury.
and it would hurt lebron a lot more than its hurt marino.

Baseball players do seem to get excused more from the championship talk. But I do remember a lot of chatter about if "a-rod doesn't win a championship, then how does it affect his legacy" a few years ago.
That was because A-Rod had the reputation of blowing donkey dick in the playoffs. Many great players remained great in the playoffs, their team just didn't have it. A-Rod became a whipping boy of having a 200 million dollar contract that sucked in the postseason, but he proved he could do it and that's why you don't hear anything any more.

Agreed, but that's just because it's easier for one guy to take over in basketball than in football.
