Does anyone know if those fish can be caught with a fishing pole or do they just eat vegetation?
I'm not sure about Flying Carp, but the Carp in the TN River and some of the lakes here in NW AL can be caught on dough balls. But, as others have said, snagging or shooting them with a bow is the best way to catch them.
Some people do eat them. I know of a cpl old black guys that love them. My papaw (Mom's Dad) had one that he cleaned and cooked and fed to my Dad (filleted it up so he couldn't tell and told him it was something else) and my Dad ate it and said it was good. I was real young and don't remember it, but they tell the story.

I did that to an old coon arse with a stingray one time. Thought it was the best fish ever till I told him what it was. As long as the meat is white it will pop some grease.

You don't even need to try to catch them. Just paddle a canoe around for a little while near a structure in the water and you will have a few jump in your boat. Whenever we go through the locks near Alton, IL we have more carp in the boat than we could catch on a good day fishing.

Why not just mount a soccer goal on the back of the boat and run down the river.
Looks like passing 1 school is all it would take to hit your limit.

Are these the ones that f everything up by running other fish off?

They are filter feeders and eat their body weight in plankton a day. Bad thing is that many game fish eat plankton as well during the early stages of their life.

We go tubing and wakeboarding too much for those things to be there
Apparently it's the bull sharks you have to worry about in areas like the Tchefuncte river, not the carp.

Search 'tchefuncte' on the OT. Think it was posted yesterday.

That boat ride looks like a redneck retake of the Matrix.

Wooooo Why would anything want to live in False River. No offense but that water body is the worst lake healthwise in the SE part of the country.

I completely agree with ya there, but those things seem to give absolutely no fricks as to where they will live
