This statement is legit:

"Gurm's problem is that he's made enough money that he doesn't have to work. He can go to nerd cons and blog about pizza and the Jets/Giants all fricking day long and it doesn't negatively affect his lifestyle. "

GRRM does appear to seek every distraction he can find to keep from writing the books.

Yep yep. GRRM has his ardent defenders of which Books is obviously one. And he has his detractors. None of his detractors ever question his skill as a writer (though we do question the vivid detail he uses when describing sex involving pubescent girls). We question his work ethic. Let's face it. GrrM is Albert Freaking Haynesworth of the writing world. He can be great for you, but once he got that big contract he lost his sense of urgency and drive. He's having too much fun being GrrM and sending people out on "quests" to get him Philly Chesse Steaks and Barbecue to bother returning to Westeros with any type of regularity.

We will know if he's lost it with this next book. Of course it could be the biggest piece of shite ever published, but there are some fans that will think it's the greatest thing ever published.
