This

Old wives tale that if you bathe em in salt water they will poop and the vein will be clearer. Also puke etc... exactly that, old wives tale.

I think the only thing gettin' killed is time and the grass in the yard...but it still doesn't do "shite" to the crawfish...except wash 'em again.

I'll waste 39 cents on a box of salt.

I need it to kill the weeds in the ditch.

I used to salt it doesn't do shite

If you really want to purge them then put them in an ice chest with clean water and put a fish aerator in the bottom overnight, and replace the water as it gets dirty

I usually say frick it and boil em you'll only get a few that you can actually taste the doo doo

If I go to a boil I don't care either way. For my boil, I'll waste the $1 on salt.

It will take more than one study to convince me otherwise. Do you realize how many experiments may go one way, then they can't duplicate it. Our ancestors knew something, I'll stick with hundreds of years of tradition over one science experiement 99% of the time.

Might just want to research that a bit. I'll wager a bet that salt was so precious in the time frame you reference, it was not used to "clean" a crawfish in preparation for boiling by the "average Joe", or probably anyone, past 2 generations ago.

They used salt to condition hides, to store perishable food before refrigeration (something that was done for a long time UNTIL 2 maybe 3 generations ago). It wasn't all that uncommon. Research? Eat your words.

In any case, I'm not here telling you that you need to use it. I'm just saying I do.

wow, that's a way better idea than what I do...

Using handwipes to wipe them down individually is very time consuming.

To be fair to the crawfish, you are going to drop them in boiling water. That sounds pretty torturous to me, but then again I don't have the nerve system of a crawfish so I'm not sure what they actually feel, if anything. I don't think a little salt is going to be too hard on them.

As for salt purging, no, I don't use it. To each their own.

Ehh I dunno, always have. I boiled em once without doing it and they tasted funny, so I kept doing it. Prolly more mental than anything, but who knows.
